- This is a small collection of materials concerning the Panshin family. Dr. Alexis J. Panshin escaped from Russia after the Czar's family was killed. He went on to be a professor of forestry at Michigan State College (later Michigan State University) from 1935 to 1967. The collection includes a booklet he authored entitled "Wood Identification for 4-H Clubs" in 1940. His wife Lucie P. Panshin was a native of Syracuse, New York, who was educated at Syracuse University and worked as a journalist. Her obituary and memorial service bulletins are included. They had two sons, Daniel, who served in the Navy as a submariner and earned a PhD in oceanography, and Alexei, an author.
