It is affixed with the gold seal of the State of Michigan and red, white, and blue ribbon on the bottom left. The text of the certificate is as follows: "State of Michigan Certificate of Election We the undersigned, State Canvassers, from a careful examination of the Election Returns from all the Counties in the State of Michigan, as received by the Secretary of State do determine, as the result of our investigation, that Hazen S. Pingree has been, by the greatest number of votes, duly elected to the office of Governor of said State for the full term of Two Years from the first day of January, A.D. eighteen hundred and ninety-nine at the General Election holden on the eighth day of November A.D. 1898. Witness our Hands, at Lansing, this fifteenth day of December A.D. 1898. Washington Gardner Secretary of State Geo. A. Steel State Treasurer. Wm. A. French Com'r State Land Office. State of Michigan Office of the Secretary of State. A number of events are described for children and adults, including standard foot races; novelty races, like the egg race, balloon race, peanut race, necktie race, fat men's race, and cracker race; a popularity contest; and a baseball game. Prizes are listed for each, often including a box of Sanders chocolate for third place. The back page of the brochure promotes a moonlight cruise on Wednesday, July 12 aboard the STE. CLAIRE with Fizel's Orchestra, and an excursion to Put-in-Bay aboard the PUT-IN-BAY on Wednesday, August 2, 1922. The program doubles as a raffle ticket, and the number 1000 is printed on the cover above a note about the raffle.

- One drawing of Fort Wayne. The drawing consists of black ink and pencil on heavy tan paper and shows a plan view of the walls as well as the gun platform layout of the fort. Gun platform numbers are indicated along with certain fort dimensions. A small inset drawing in the upper right corner area includes notes that show "Outline of Interior Crest of Old Work. Used in laying out work and making drawings; determined as accurately as practicable from measurements of the different fronts in April, 1863. J.J.L. [J. J. Lee]" and "Note. The bottom of new scarp was laid out 43 feet from & parallel with the old crest, except on faces of East Bastion, where it is 45' 3"."

It was the home of Alexis Chapoton, (also known as Alexander Chapoton, Sr.) and his wife the former Felice Montreuil of Walkerville, Ont. They were married Feb. 5, 1839."

The water supply is pumped through a long tunnel from Lake St. Clair to the distributing point. The Park is noted for its big floral clock and the memorial at the entrance. - Mounted black and white print of a drawing of the Detroit River circa 1826 taken from page 375 of volume one of Silas Farmer's book, The History of Detroit and Michigan. The drawing is inspired by the painting, Detroit as Seen from the Canadian Shore in 1821, by Alexander Macomb. The Windsor shore of the river is pictured at the lower right, where a man sits atop a rock, fishing. To his right, a woman sits inside a tipi. A pair of rowboats are nearby in the river, while several sailing ships are docked along the opposite shore, in Detroit. The twin steeples of St. Anne's Catholic Church rise above the city's roof tops. The western tip of Belle Isle is visible in the distance. "Somner del., from old drawing" printed in lower left. - One map entitled "Partie Occidentale du Canada et Septentrionole de la Louisiane avec une Partie de la Pensilvanie [Western Part of Canada and Northernmost Louisiana with a Part of Pennsylvania]." The map is printed in black ink on a slighty yellowed paper. Some red and green ink has also been used to highlight boundaries and topographic features. It was drawn by Jean Baptiste Bourguignon d'Anville and was published by Paolo Santini of Venice, Italy, in 1775. The map covers the area from the Mississippi River valley eastward to the eastern edge of Lake Ontario and from the Ohio River valley northward to Lake Alemenipigon [Nipigon] and the south shore of James Bay. The names of principal lakes, rivers, forts, towns, and Indian tribal regions are shown in French along with lines of latitude and longitude.

- One blueprint drawing of the "Steel Steam Yacht, Enquirer." The drawing shows a starboard side view of the two-masted, propeller-driven yacht at a scale of 1/4 inch = 1 foot. An information table at the top center indicates that the yacht was 143 feet 1 inch in length and was built by the Union Dry Dock Company in 1896.

- Black and white photo of the State Street face of the Edison Building on the southeast corner of Washington Boulevard and State Street, taken during its conversion from the Edison Illuminating Company's Station A to the company's offices, from across State to the northeast. Several windows, and in some cases, the surrounding brickwork have been removed, and workers are visible inside. A construction canopy has been erected above the sidewalk along State Street. A sign for a loan office is posted on the Sun Building on the left edge of frame. In the background on the right, the Reliable Furniture and Carpet Company, the W. G. Arthur Reid Company, Mazda Lamps, and Fulmer's Cigar Store are visible on the west side of Washington Boulevard. - One set of architectural "Specifications for Mr. L. J. Mosse for a Two Story Four Family Flat Building Located on the West Side of Brooklyn Avenue Between High and Locust Streets, Part of Lot 3 & 4, Detroit, Michigan." The specifications (Job 265, Set No. 3) are bound in a booklet that has three brass fasteners at the top. The cover is made of heavy tan paper and includes typewritten text for the title. Printed text beneath the title shows the name, "J. Lawson Miller, Architect." The cover interior and outside back cover have printed advertisements for many contractors, tradesmen, and building materials suppliers. The booklet contains 61 pages of typewritten text that give brief descriptions of all of the materials and construction requirements for the project. An index is shown on the first page.

- Sepia-toned photo mounted on a black cabinet card with gold trim bearing an image taken during the 1891 National Encampment of the Grand Army of the Republic in Detroit. A triumphal arch topped with an obelisk is in the process of being erected on the corner of Woodward Avenue and Jefferson Avenue, as viewed facing south. The framework beneath its lower right corner is visible. The structure is decorated with Civil War scenes, including the battle between the ironclads, the Monitor and Merrimack, as well as cavalry scene. Eagles and stars are posted on each corner of the structure, and it is draped with garlands. A horse-drawn streetcar passes beneath it, and many horse buggies and wagons are stopped near it. On the right are a moonlight tower, and the building housing Hanshaw and Cohen, Signs and Clarke and Readon, Printers.

Printed on verso: Detroit Opera House and Palmer Fountain. - This beautiful fountain was donated to the city by Mrs. Thos. W. Palmer several years ago. It is located on the Campus Martius which was reserved as a breathing spot in the "Governor and Judges" plan, adopted for the city in its earliest history. The Opera House is one of the finest in the country and caters to high class shows only. Handwritten message on verso, postmarked Apr 10, 1910.

The envelope is postmarked Detroit, February 3, 1886, and bears a two cent brown George Washington stamp. A Pierrepont Manor, New York, February 4, 1886 postmark is on the verso.

The back reads, "Elmwood Cemetery is located in the eastern part of the city and contains 78 acres. It is one of the oldest cemeteries in the city being opened in 1846." Back of one also reads, "Published By Wolverine News Co., Detroit, Mich., Made in U.S.A.", "A-17415", "Post Card, This Space for Addresses Only." Stamp square reads, "Place Stamp Here, Domestic One Cent, Foreign Two Cents. Both postcards have some writing on the back. - Five page handwritten letter from Frederick William Kellogg to his daughters Florence Ellen Scripps Kellogg and Dorothy Winifred Kellogg, dated August 5, 1898, on stationery from the circulation department of the Kansas City World where Frederick worked. The paper was part of the Scripps-McRae League of newspapers. The letter reads: Dear Ellen & Dorothy: I think a great deal of you and of William also but he is so little that I am writing this letter to you and you can tell William what I say. It is pretty warm here in Kansas City but there are lots of nice trees and parks and Ellen will remember the part at Fairmount where I used to swing here last year when she and Mamma and Aunt Janine were here. It seems very long since I have seen you all and it is a long time. I love you both very much and William too. He must be a pretty big boy now. I send you some pictures and some gum and I hope you will keep well and happy. Mamma writes me that you are good girls and that makes me very happy and proud of you.
