A table of steamboat routes and distances is shown along the right edge. The map is drawn at an approximate scale of 1 inch = 22 miles. - Half-folded banquet menu autographed by Ulysses S. Grant from a luncheon held in his honorat Young's Hotel in Boston, Massachusetts, on October 15th, 1880. The menu is composed of blue fabric and cardstock, and the cover is decorated with hand painted flowers. "Complimentary to Gen. U. S. Grant by the Republican State Committee," is printed on the interior on the left. The menu is printed in pink on the right. The verso is signed by Ulysses S. Grant and printed with "Young's Hotel, October 15th, 1880."

- This partial sheet of writing paper has been torn from a larger sheet. It has light blue lines and a watermark that shows the image of a spinning wheel and the name, "Crane's." A handwritten note across the center shows "Signature of the oldest man now living in Detroit - written without the aid of glasses - Francis Martin, Naval Officer, Captain in Revenue Marine, U.S." Another handwritten note along the left edge shows "Written for Mrs. G. B. Seymour by Capt. Martin on his 100th Birthday Anniversary. June 4, 1900."

- This white paper envelope contained a 2-page letter that was written by Frank I. Cobb, leading editorial writer of the Detroit Free Press. The front of the envelope has a handwritten address that shows "The Newspapers of Detroit, Frank I. Cobb." The flap on the back side of the envelope is sealed with black wax that has been impressed with a smudged, circular design.

Desnoyers, which was deeded on September 15, 1829, due to the fact that the deed described "by reason of erroneous courses and boundaries, a parcel of ground other than that intended." The certificate is signed by John R. Williams, Mayor of Detroit, E.A. Brush, Recorder, and ten Aldermen, among them J. Owen, F. Buhl, B. Wight, William Barclay, Benjamin B. Moore, Peter Desnoyers, Oliver M. Hyde, C.R. Desnoyers, and B. Woodworth.

- Typewritten letter from Walter E. Morrison, president of the Dow Portable Electric Assistant Company of Braintree, Massachusetts to the Electric Service and Appliance Company on 166 Randolph Street, dated December 11, 1901, written in reply to a previous letter from the company. Morrison, or someone writing on his behalf states that "our Mr. Morrison" will be leaving on a trip on Friday, but he will call from his trip if possible. Additionally the letter says that there has been a delay in the manufacturing of the six inch park coils which the Electric Service and Appliance Company has ordered. Morrison's signature closes the letter. It is printed on Dow Portable Electric Assistant Company letterhead, which includes an engraving of a portable receiver built into a carrying case.

The document bears the signatures of President Benjamin Vernor, and Secretary Henry Starkey, beside a yellow embossed Fire Department of the City of Detroit seal. Illustrations of uniformed firefighters, an early fire apparatus and firefighting equipment, the seal of the State of Michigan, and Neptune flanked by two winged monsters are bordered by scrollwork. The certificate is mounted on linen.

- One navigational chart entitled, "Chart No. 1 of River Ste. Marie from Point Iroquois to East Neebish." The area was "Surveyed under the direction of Captain J. N. Macomb, Topl. Engrs. [Topographical Engineers] in 1853, 1854, & 1855, with additions to date under the orders of Captain G. G. Meade, Topl. Engrs., 1857." The chart was drawn at a scale of 1:40,000 and covers several miles of the St. Mary's River both upstream and downstream of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, with information such as soundings in feet, river bottom characteristics, shoreline details, lighthouses, and sailing directions. The chart was printed in black ink on white paper and was published by the Bureau of Topographical Engineers of the War Department (later known as the Army Corps of Engineers). Small printed text in the lower right corner shows "Engraved by W. H. Dougal." Small printed text in the lower left corner shows "Reduced for Engraving by J. U. Mueller." An adhesive label on the left side shows "Detroit, Mar. 5th, 1884, Presented to the Tug, Chas. E. Bird."

- Charter establishing the General O.M. Poe Post No. 433 of the Michigan Department of the Grand Army of the Republic. The charter lists the names of 19 members of the post and is signed by the Department Commander William Shakespeare and Assistant Adjutant general C.V.R. Pond. The gold seal of the Michigan Department of the Grand Army of the Republic is affixed to the bottom. Military scenes are shown at each corner, and an image of an eagle surrounded by cannons and American flags is below the title. The text of the charter is as follows: "Grand Army of the Republic. To all unto whom these Presents shall come, Greeting: Know Ye, That reposing full trust and confidence in the fidelity and patriotism of Comrades 1 - Martin V.B. Lake 2. James Mc.C. - Hardcover book containing the handwritten minutes from the meetings of Mechanics Company No. 8, as well as its constitution and by-laws, brief accounts of several fires, and some financial records spanning its founding on December 6, 1848 to its dissolution on April 14, 1856, in protest of an ordinance that forbid the company from pulling their hand-drawn fire apparatus along sidewalks. The passages are attributed to the group's secretaries--in order--C.F. Morris, H. Willson, Alexander Lambie, D.C. Whitman, E.P. Warden, John McNamara, Thomas McWilliams, James Cavanagh, and Isaac C. Wallace. The pages following the dissolution of the company include math problems and multiplication tables, the lyrics to the ballad "She Was Bred in Old Kentucky," a drawing resembling a plumbing diagram, the outline of several pressed leaves, and several geometric sketches. The book is bound in a brown cover and "Record," and "Mechanics Fire Co. No. 8," are printed on the its spine. A handwritten inscription on a front flyleaf reads, "April 12, 1856, This book is presented to Isaac C. Wallace by Mechanic Fire Company No. 8."

The booklet consists of a half-folded sheet bound with white string ending in a yellow tassel into a half-folded cover with a red illustration of a horse-drawn fire engine against a white and blue background on the front. The program of dances to be performed to the music of Schremser's Orchestra, as well as the list of committee members are contained within. The program was printed by Hunter and Schenren at 178 Brush Street.

- One copy of "The Detroit Daliy Post" newspaper for "Saturday Morning, June 27, 1874." It consists of a single large sheet of paper that has been folded in half in order to create four pages of black printed text. Short articles cover international, national, and local news as well as real estate, vessel passages, wholesale market prices, death notices, legal notices, weather, and advertisements. Several small engraved drawings are included among the advertisements. This newspaper was contained in the lead box time capsule that was removed from the Old City Hall on May 25, 1961.

- Color postcard depicting carriages on a road on Belle Isle, with several people along the sides and steamships on the Detroit River in the background. Printed on verso: Along the Shore, Belle Isle, Detroit's principal recreation spot. The island is located in the Detroit river near lake St. Clair, and it connected with the city by a bridge 8 feet less than half a mile in length. It comprises 702 acres, is over two miles long and boasts over thirty miles of fine macadam roadway which completely circles and frequently intersects it. A fine zoo, aquarium, horticultural building, swimming and skating pavilions, casino and boat livery are in connection. The City has expended over $1,500,000 on it since its purchase in 1879. - One set of architectural "Specifications for the Grosse Pointe Shores Realty Co., for a Frame Subdivision Building Located on Private Claim No. 576, 1/3 Mile Past Vernier Road on Jefferson Ave., Grosse Pointe, Mich." The specifications (Job 244) are bound in a booklet that has two brass fasteners at the top. The cover is made of heavy off-white paper that has handwritten text for the title. Printed text beneath the title shows the name, "J. Lawson Miller, Successor to Falkinburg & Miller, Architect." The cover interior and outside back cover have printed advertisements for many contractors, tradesmen, and building materials suppliers. The booklet contains 32 pages of typewritten text that give brief descriptions of all of the materials and construction requirements for the project. An index is shown on the first page.

- Typewritten letter sent to the Clark Electrical Engineering Company from H. Kent McCay, president of the McCay Engineering Company of Baltimore, Maryland on May 30, 1906. In the brief message McCay informs Clark that they will being sending the specifications for wireless telegraph sets for Fort Wood, New York "within a few days." McCay closes with his signature. The letter was printed on McCay Engineering Company letterhead. "Army Navy Paper," has been handwritten in pencil near the bottom left corner of the recto.

Belle Isle is in the Detroit River between Detroit and Windsor, Canada. The island contains 702 acres and is entirely covered with one of the most beautiful parks in the United States, having some 21 miles of Macadam Roads, a magnificent Casino, Pavilions, Boat Houses, Aquarium, Horticulture Hall and Zoological Gardens. The island was purchased by Detroit in 1879, and has since then expended $1,600,000 in beautifying it. Handwritten message on verso, postmarked Aug 14, 1915.

Fairfield (ex-president of Hillsdale College) to the Young Men's Republican Club of Hillsdale, delivered on October 5, 1886, urging them to stay with the Republican Party. The speech highlights the differences between the Republicans and Democrats in regards to Reconstruction, temperance, and protective tariffs. Despite his support for their core issue, he also urges that his audience not stray into the Prohibition Party, feeling that the Republicans would better handle the issue of Prohibition rather than a dedicated party.

- A book of receipts bound in cardboard. The receipts are for medicines received from Thomas P. Dickinson, for medicines to be resold on commission. The medicines listed on each receipt are Dickinson's Universal C. & C. Annihilator, Dickinson's Universal Life Pills, Dickinson's Universal Strengthening Plaster, and Dickinson's Universal Healing Salve. Only the first three receipts have been filled out. They are all dated 1885. The first is signed by A. Ruttedge, the second by G.R. Roburn, and the third by J. Thatcher. The prices are all expressed in pounds sterling.
