- Mounted black and white photograph taken of the ruins of Capitol High School following its fire on January 27, 1893, as viewed from an elevated positioned across Griswold Street to the southwest. Icicles hang from the building's facade and surrounding utility lines, and rubble has settled around its base. A ladder apparatus, and a fire engine are on Griswold, near the northeastern end of the building. Several figures dot the streets. The sign for the Griswold Street Theatre is visible on the right edge of the frame. A moonlight tower is visible down State Street on the left edge of the frame. The photo is mounted on a cardboard backing, with the following handwritten on the verso: Jan 27, 1893 Detroit Central High School Fire 18 Engine Companies in the Dept. Another man stands behind him holding an adding machine. John Francis Dodge stands, wearing a dark suit, on the left side of a group of three men on the right side of the group. A large building stands in the background on the left, and a row of cars are packed beside another smaller building on the right. The photo on the right is a closer view of these ten cars, which are predominately Hudsons. "Photo by H.W. Wilson, 650 Mt. Elliott" is printed in the lower right corner of the right photo.

The view shows two steel lattice transmission line towers with tops that have collapsed and are hanging on the sides of the towers. The ground and nearby trees are covered with ice. A farmhouse and barn can be seen in the background. A note along the top edge of the photo shows "Along State Road South of Linwood, 3-1-22." A handwritten note and letters along the bottom edge show "C, D, E, F; On curve, Looking South." Possibly, this photo was taken somewhere in the vicinity of Grand River Avenue and Linwood Street.
