- Woman's two piece suit of black taffeta and fine black wool. Skirt has graduated petals of black wool with three covered buttons over a very full, waltz length taffeta skirt. There is a side zipper.. The jacket is single breasted, with self-covered buttons. It has a rolled collar and shoulder pads. Long, tight sleeves with cuffs. Flares over hips. Label:(at neckline) "Irene"

- Woman's pale lavender-pink faille gown. The bodice has a high collared lace dickie, and elbow length sleeves. Bretelles over each shoulder are embroidered with pale pink chain stitches, gold flowers, lavender and blue grapes, and green leaves. The natural waistband is also trimmed with chain stitches, and an oval leaf crest. The A-line skirt is slightly longer in back with two crossed panels in the front that are embriodered with a pale pink abstract floral design at the hem. The back panel is plain. A short embroidered panel with two buttons is at the waist on the back left side. The dress hooks down the back. The gown belonged to the donor's mother, Mrs. James R. Hayes. Mr. Hayes was proprietor of the Wayne Hotel from the 1880s until 1918. The dress was made by Bertha A. Krenz whose shop was on High Street (Vernor).

- Woman's navy-beaded purse with satin lining and a metal frame. The closure is a gold clasp of two acorn-shaped pieces. The purse folds in the center. It is decorated with midnight blue beads in flower and vine design across the bottom and the reverse side of the top half which folds over. The purse in completely edged with six rows of beads, and lightly beaded throughout. Matches dress #68.259.002. Label: Made in Belgium. Part of the donor's outfit at an affair honoring her husband's appointment to the United Nations in 1954.

- This wool challis black, green, purple, red and white geometric print woman's dress has a plain round neck with no collar, long straight sleeves with cuffs and covered buttons. The front is plain and slightly gathered at the waist seam. The dress zips up the back. The dress is part of an ensemble which includes a black knit jumper. The jumper is a chemise with a mandarin collar and large black button at the shoulder. The skirt is slit to the waist. There is a narrow black leather belt. The jumper has a concealed zippered back. The breast pocket has a handkerchief which matches the challis black, green, purple, red and white geometric print of the dress. Label:"Pierre Cardin" (on the dress)

Probably worn by donor's mother, Margaret McMillan ( daughter of Robert, of G&R McMillan). Mrs. Arthur David Holmes. He was a doctor, specializing in children. Married in Detroit, 1898. Margaret b. c. 1864. Daughters Margaret M. born c. 1899, Agnes May born c. 1900.

- This woman's light, buff wool twill suit has a navy blue silk velvet collar and buttons. The suit has a fitted jacket that is flared below the waist. It has two tails in the back that are edged with blue velvet buttons, two front pockets, and long sleeves. The jacket lining is white silk with large pink circles. The ankle-length skirt is beautifully cut with a hip yoke and two gores in back, and a T-shaped piece in front. The skirt has an invisible waistband, side hook, and left closure. The suit has a Henri Bendel, N.Y. label.

- Woman's muted turquoise crepe evening gown having a straight undecorated skirt, fitted, dropped waist. The dress has a round, jewel neckline, cap sleeves (shoulder pads have been removed), and a bodice decorated with 1 1/2" x 3/4" beaded ovals in shades of pink, black, silver, and gold. Three lines of pink and silver beads edge the neck and sleeves. Side zipper. 6 1/2" wide gathered panel in back, starting from a 2 1/4" wide strip of machine shirring at the waist seam, suggests a bustle. Label: Florice, Washington Blvd., Detroit.

- Woman's gray-green gabardine suit having a long-sleeve collarless jacket with padded shoulders, and an inset yoke with diagonal button down tabs on either side. It has set-in front pockets with matching diagonal button-down flaps. The jacet ends past the hips and is lined with pale purple crepe. The straight skirt has a 1 3/8" waistband with a side zipper and hooks. The waistband measures approximately 26." Labels: Adrian in British Samek Material, and The J.L. Hudson Co., Detroit.

- Woman's two piece silk suit in a rose and light beige stripe fabric. The jacket has a wide collar banded in rose, patch pockets, and long sleeves with cuffs. It snaps at the waist, and has a tie belt attached at the back waist and sides. The skirt is pleated at the waist, and has a back snap opening. Part of donor's wedding trousseau. She was married on April 10, 1917. Due to WWI, German dyes were not available, and stripes such as this were substituted.

The flare is increased by padding on the hips The sleeves stop a little short of the wrists. Graduated size buttons. The coat was purchased by the donor in 1955 or 1956 at Julie's Inc. for $350.00. - Woman's two piece beige shantung suit. The collarless cropped jacket has padded shoulders. Its long straight sleeves continue across the shoulders and bodice in a triangular shape. The jacket has insets of brown and gold raw silk at the chest, top of the front closing, and on the sleeves. The unlined, gored, A-line shirt has a high 3" wide waistband with a hook and eye closure. - Womn's three piece, creamy white wool knit tennis dress. The hip length jacket (a) has a small collar, and long, straight sleeves that botton closed at the cuff. It has two side pockets, and a single button closing below the bust for freedom of movement. The mid calf skirt (b) has pleats at its sides, and a hook and eye side closing. The V-neck dickey (c) is sideless, and sleeveless. It is a slip-on garment with elastic ties at its sides. Worn by donor's mother, Marion Scherer Livingstone.

- This long sleeved woman's dress of black wool wool has a "V" shaped front insert of black Persian lamb at the neckline as well as a similar insert in back from neck to hemline. There are two square gold buttons 1 1/4" at shoulder on left side. The dress has a waist line with a fold of material down left side and pleats hooked by ribbon on inside. The left side fastening has seven eyes and one hook. The belt has two gold buttons, and a leather lining. The matching black Persian lamb, short cape has a small pointed collar. The cape has a black tassel near its collar to hook the cape. A fold of V-shape material is along the back. The back length is 30.5". There is a label on the inside of the collar that reads: Julie, Inc. Fisher Building, Detroit.

The long, loose sleeves are heavily embroidered with flower and leaf patterns in rust, turquoise and gold metallic threads. - This rose colored woman's two piece wool knit dress has a top with an overall pattern of overlapping horizontal ribbed squares, 3/4 length raglan sleeves with ribbed cuffs, and a round neckline with a ribbed turn-over collar. There is a 6" neck zipper, and a ribbed bottom with belt loops for 3/4" self belt with a brass buckle. The straight skirt has a wide vertical ribbed pattern and an elasticized waistband. - This man's beaver fur overcoat is double breasted and fastens in the front with five "frogs" and ten fur covered buttons. it has a slash pocket on each side, and two breast pockets in its interior. The sleeves have turn-back cuffs, and the coat is lined with black sateen. The beaver pelts were obtained from American Indians living north of Grand Marais on Lake Superior in 1883. The pelts were sent to New York City to be dressed. They were then returned to Detroit, and made into an overcoat by Dickerson & Co which was located at 80 Woodward Avenue (old number). It was made for Ira F. Holt who was a ship owner, and had passenger boats running from Duluth down the north shore of Lake Superior.

- Women's dress made of very sheer cloth that is loosely woven of fine, ecru-color thread. The bodice has a square neckline with a black velvet yoke. Its shoulders back and front center are embroidered with heavy black and white silk floss, with heavy white lace across shoulders. The bodice is gathered to the waist, and has long, loose sleeves whose cuffs are decorated with black velvet, black chiffon, and the same black and white embroidery. There are two velvet buttons on each sleeve. The long skirt is rather narrow, and is comprised of the same material as the bodice. The lower half of the skirt has a wide panel of black and white embroidery, ecru lace, and black velvet buttons.

- One woman's fine black wool cocktail dress with a high neck cut in one with bodice and having a small 'V' at the neck. There is a front center seam, a center back zipper and elbow length dolman sleeves with a narrow hem. The wrap skirt falls just below the knees. It is lined in black taffeta. It is gathered on the right hip, and hem and the gather are edged in dark brown mink. Salvage of the fabric has "Lesur" woven in. The dress was designed by Ruth Joyce. - This woman's evening dress has a black crepe bodice and a pink and gold striped taffeta skirt. It has padded shoulders and long, sleeves zippered at the wrist. The v-neck is repeated in the wide angle V of the waistline and stripes of the skirt. There is a side zipper. Label: 'Lizzette Mammoth, Book Bldg., Det.' "New York Creation, New York Dress Institute." Donor said she purchased dress at Walter's in Detroit in 1937, but it has the Mammoth label, and the NY Dress Institute wasn't organized until Nov. 1940.

- Woman's black and white check cotton, maternity dress. It has elbow-length sleeves trimmed with attached cuffs of white barred lawn that have embroidered black yarn dots, two rows of hemstitching, and are piped with the black and white cotton. An attached half belt snaps in front. The dress has a patch pocket on each side of the skirt front. Each pocket is trimmed with a flap similar to the cuffs and collar. Label: The Matinee.

- Woman's silk crepe cocktail dress with jacket in two shades of gold. The dress flows freely from the gathering of the round, piped neckline. Ties on the upper back criss-cross the front in the Grecian style. The panels of the dress alternate shades of gold. The jacket is bolero-cut with cap sleeves and piped edges.
