The letter also has the note, "For the strong box," and signature, "Dr. Stevenson" [Stephenson].

- Ribbon-bound program booklet for a dinner in honor of the Legislature, Supreme Court and Railroad Officials given by Governor Hazen S. Pingree, on December 18, 1900 at the State Capitol in Lansing. The cover is printed with images of the Mohawk and Hudson Railway's John Bull, and the Pere Marquette Railroad's Vestibule Limited. The program contains the menu, a list of musical selections to be performed, and an orange seal of the State of Michigan with a blue satin ribbon adhered to the first page. The program was printed by the Winder Printing Company of Detroit.

- Firemen's Fund Association membership certificate, printed by the Detroit Lithographic Office, and issued to Mark A. Gascoigne on Feburary 23, 1867. The document bears the signatures of President John Hyland, Treasurer James A. Elliott, and Secretary John Kendall, beside a green adhesive embossed Firemen's Fund Association seal. Illustrations of a firefighter speaking into a bugle, as two other firefighters hold a hose, as well as of a team of firefighters riding in an early self-propelled steam-driven fire engine are on the left side of the certificate. The certificate is mounted on linen.

- Invitation card to the Second Annual Fireman's Ball held by the Association of Ex-Members Detroit Steam Fire Department at the Light Guard Armory (noted in the invite as formerly being Fireman's Hall), on Tuesday, January 12, 1897. The card consists of a triangular flap with printed with an image of a firefighter's helmet, a twisted length of hose, and a hook, bound with yellow string over the left edge of a rectangular card. The recto of the card is printed with information about the event, and a red background illustration of a horse-drawn fire engine. The verso lists committee members. The recto contains information about the event, as well as a green background image of a horse-drawn fire engine. Committee members are listed on the verso. The invitation was printed by Williams and Horton on 48 Porter Street.

- Color postcard depicting the Detroit approach to the Michigan Central Railway Tunnel, with a truss bridge and buildings in the background. Trains are on the tunnel tracks and alongside. Printed on verso: The Detroit River Tunnel, has the unique distinction of being the only tunnel of its type ever built. It was constructed in sections, all work being done from the surface of the water without the use of compressed air. The Tunnel is operated electronically. Construction was started October 1, 1906, and completed July 1, 1910. The length from portal to portal is 1 3/8 miles, and from summit of grade 2 ½ miles. It was built by the Detroit River Tunnel Company for the M. C. R. R. at a cost of $8,500,000. Handwritten message on verso, postmarked Jul 8, 1911.

Printed on verso: The Detroit City Hall in which are located the administrative offices of the city, was erected in 1869. It is a handsome and substantial stone structure, situated on Woodward Avenue, between Fort street and Lafayette Avenue, occupying an entire block. The city spent $50,000 remodeling the interior in 1906. To the left is shown Fort street, west one of the leading business thoroughfares and which connects the heart of the city with the immense manufacturing establishments in Delray and other down-river industries. - Hazen S. Pingree's military discharge papers from his service in the 1st Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Heavy Artillery unit during the Civil War. The form reads: To all whom it may Concern: Know ye, That Hazen S. Pingree a Private of Captain Joseph M. Kendalls Company, F, First Regiment of Mass. Heavy Artillery Volunteers, who was enrolled on the 2nd day of August one thousand eight hundred and sixty two to serve three years or during the war, is hereby Discharged from the service of the United States this 13th day of March 1864, at Arlington Va. by reason of re-enlistment as a veteran volunteer. (No objection to his being re-enlisted is know to exist.*) Said Hazen S. Pingree was born in Denmark in the state of Maine, is Twenty two years of age, Five feet Ten inches high, Light complexion, Blue eyes, Light hair, and by occupation, when enrolled, a Bootmaker. Given at Arlington Va, this 14th day of March 1864. An oath of identity is on the verso, with Hazen S. Pingree's name filled in at the top.

- Abstract of Title prepared by the Burton Abstract and Title Company concerning "Out Lot 3 of the Dennis J. and Theodore J. Campau Plat" located in Sections 29 and 32 of Township 1 South, Range 12 East, Wayne County, Michigan. The subject property contains approximately 266 acres in Hamtramck Township which is now part of the City of Hamtramck. The document package consists of approximately 100 pages of typewritten text and printed forms which trace the chain of land ownership from Joseph Campau, who purchased the land from the Land Office in Detroit in 1822. The abstract traces the property ownership transfers through the 1860's to various persons including he heirs of Joseph Campau. The pages are bound at the top with a pale red woven cord.

The drawing (Job 260) consists of black ink on linen and shows a wall cross-section detail and front elevation view of an existing 2-story, 2-family flat for "Mr. S. [Samuel] J. Hardenbergh, Owner, Detroit, Michigan." This drawing, shown at a scale of 1/4 inch = 1 foot, was part of a set of eleven sheets that were prepared by "J Lawson Miller, Architect." The plans indicate that several window and architectural alterations were proposed for the building. The building is located at 4553 Avery Avenue just south of Forest Avenue W. in Detroit. A red ink stamp near the lower left corner of the sheet shows "Plans Examined and Approved, Jul. 14, 1915. Department of Buildings, City of Detroit, By H. C. Slater.

The ticket is canceled, March 19, 1873 at 7 P.M., stamped with the registration number 321, and agency number 285, and is printed with the signature of the company's secretary Charles E. Willard. The verso contains the terms of the policy.

- Detroit Fire Department active duty certificate, engraved by Capewell and Kimmel, and issued to Andrew Werbecht on July 31, 1854. The document bears the signatures of President Jerome Croul, Treasurer Alexander Paton, and Secretary Benjamin Vernor, beside a corroded metallic embossed Fire Department of the City of Detroit seal. Illustrations, purportedly hand colored by Robert Hopkin, of uniformed firefighters, an early fire apparatus and firefighting equipment, the seal of the State of Michigan, and Neptune flanked by two winged monsters are bordered by scrollwork. The number "12" has been added to the helmets of the firefighters and to the apparatus, likely indicating Werbecht's involvement in Woodbridge Fire Company No. 12. The certificate is mounted on linen.

Roberts, Fire Department President Chauncey Hurlbut, and Fire Department Treasurer Mason Palmer, and bears both the embossed seals of the Fire Department of the City of Detroit, and of the City of Detroit. At the top, an engraving by George W. Hatch, based on a painting by Henry Inman, captioned "Protection and Benevolence," shows the Roman god Neptune receiving a pair of keys from a woman, who wears a crown, holds a caduceus and stands beside a shield, possibly intended as either Minerva or Mercury. To their right, another woman hands a document marked "The Department Fund," to another woman, dressed in black, who sits cradling a baby. An engraving, credited to N. It is dated "12 O'Clock Midnight Dec. 31st 1900" and is signed in black ink by Clarence A. Cotton. The paper also has a watermark which might be "Bauerhum" The letter is entitled, "Denominational Churches in Detroit," and gives some brief statistics about the numbers of churches of various denominations that existed in the city as of 1900. The letter has numerous handwritten corrections and the author noted at the bottom, "P.S. - In justice to myself I must disclaim credit for the bad spelling in the above. It was rapidly dictated by me to an inexperienced stenographer. C.A.C."

Pingree Monument, Central United Methodist Church, Y.M.C.A., pedestrians, cars and a streetcar on Woodward Avenue, and the William Cotter Maybury Monument in view. Printed on verso: View of Grand Circus Park, showing Pingree and Maybury Monuments, Central M. E. Church and Y. M. C. A. building. This park is the oldest of Detroit's recreation grounds and it situated in the heart of the city through which runs the famous Woodward avenue. This park was set aside by the city in 1854 and is enjoyed by thousands in summer on account of its magnificent shade trees. Handwritten message on verso, postmarked May 23, 1921.
