Obama encourages the listeners to register to vote then recounts his administration's record of accomplishments of preserving the auto industry, lowering taxes, passing Obamacare, and ending the Iraq and Afghan wars. He describes his plans for a second term and criticizes Romney-Ryan proposals for ending Medicare, privatizing Social Security, and expanding defense spending in spite of budget issues.

- Noted literary scholar and critic Robert Alter delivers the closing keynote address, entitled "Hebrew Poetry Rewriting Job", of the "Symposium on Modern Hebrew and Israeli Literature", sponsored by the Michigan State University Jewish Studies Program and the MSU Libraries. Alter says that the Hebrew Bible is the foundation for all subsequent Hebrew literature and offers an analysis of the poetry of Nathan Zach and Zelda Schneersohn Mishkovsky, known simply as "Zelda". Alter reads from Zach's poems and comments on syntax, rhythm, symbolism and metaphor and then moves to the poetry of Zelda and similarly comments on her use of biblical language. A question and answer session follows. The event is convened by MSU Librarian Deborah Margolis. MSU Professor Ken Waltzer acknowledges the coordinators of the symposium and MSU Professor Marc Bernstein introduces Alter. Held at the MSU Main Library. Part of the MSU Libraries' Colloquia Series.

- Third hearing on the Flint water crisis held before the U.S. House Oversight and Governmental Reform Committee. Testimony is heard from Gina McCarthy, of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Michigan Governor Rick Snyder. Snyder acknowledges failures by Michigan government says that the emergency financial manager system failed in Flint, but blames the EPA and the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) for covering up the crisis. McCarthy says that no one at the EPA did anything wrong and that they of the EPA staff involved did what they could to prevent and later solve the crisis. McCarthy also blames Flint's emergency manager for switching the water source and the State of Michigan for not requiring the use of corrosion control chemicals. Committee members challenge both McCarthy's and Snyder's testimony and several members call on both Snyder and McCarthy to resign.

- During the morning session on the nineteenth day of the impeachment trial of President Bill Clinton, members of the House Judiciary Committee serving as "managers", the equivalent of prosecutors, present their case for the introduction of witnesses into the trial. Managers Ed Bryant (R-TN), Asa Hutchinson (R-AR) and James E. Rogan (R-CA) explain their reasoning for introducing witnesses. Clinton attorney David Kendall responds to the managers, explaining why introducing witnesses to the trial is unnecessary. Managers Bill McCollum (R-FL) and Henry Hyde (R-IL) join Bryant, Hutchinson and Rogan for the rebuttal of Kendall. Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) submits a proposal that the Senate debate and vote on the option to introduce witnesses in a closed session.
