- At the 2006 Michigan State University Student Writers Awards Night, students read from their original, award wining works. Readers include: double winner Nicholas Miller, Lauren Linsalata, Patrick Walchak, and Chris Goetz. The event is convened and hosted by MSU Professor of English and co-director of Film Studies Jeff Wray. A special appearance to present awards is made by noted author Paul Beatty. Part of the MSU Libraries' Michigan Writers Series. Held in the MSU Main Library.

- Description:
- Beth Shapiro, deputy director of the Michigan State University Libraries, discusses her involvement in the the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) while an MSU student between 1967 and 1971. Shapiro talks about members of SDS, the Weathermen faction, surveillance by MSU and East Lansing police, the infiltration of SDS by law enforcement, the 1968 SDS convention, SDS leaders, and student demonstrations at the MSU ROTC and Union buildings. Shapiro says that she came to SDS from the civil rights movement, but never liked the violence that SDS advocated. She also talks about the shootings at Kent State University, the bombing of Cambodia, and the 1970 student strike and says that her high school civil rights activism in Boston, MA prepared her for her activism at MSU. Shaprio is interviewed by graduate student Kenneth Heineman.

- Kevin talks about being hired in August 1973 at the Olds Forge Plant Two and coming to Fisher in June 1982. Kevin shares his experiences and comments on work in the factory, new hire status, second shift, moving between plants, union activity, joint programs, safety training, training of coworkers, and community involvement.

- Alex talks about growing up in the neighborhood, playing around the plant and his father's experience as a Fisher worker. Alex talks about being hired in March 1981 before he turned 18, making money, life in the factory, and his union involvement. He relates a story about men being allowed to work shirtless until a woman removed her shirt.

- Shelton talks about being hired in November 1984 when the plant converted to small cars. He tells of standing in line six hours to apply at Fisher, his first day in the Body Shop, and the type of work he did. Shelton discusses coworkers, supervisors, meeting his wife, night shift family issues, lunch at Gus's Bar or Harry's, friendships and his union activity.

- Bryan originally gave this speech advocating bimetallism to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on July 9, 1896. The Democratic Party wanted to standardize the value of the dollar to silver rather than to gold. In 1921, Bryan recorded portions of that speech for Gennett Records in Richmond, Indiana.

- Howard Brody discusses his career as a physician, Professor in the Department of Family Practice at Michigan State University, and Director of MSU's Center for Ethics and the Humanities. Brody also describes pursuing a doctorate in Philosophy while in medical school, his early research, how he began to specialize in teaching medical ethics, Olin Health Center as MSU's early college hospital, moving to the new Life Sciences building, his residency in Virginia, and the creation of the Center for Ethics and the Humanities. MSU Professor Emeritus David J. Kallen conducts the interview as part of the MSU Department of Pediatrics and Human Development Oral History Project.

President Barack H. Obama speaks about the need for the Act and explains how the law gives tribal authorities greater responsibility for prosecuting and punishing criminals. Obama also notes the high crime rates on Indian land and explains how the bill will assist tribal authorities.
