Description:
Linda talks about obtaining two degrees before being hired at Fisher in August 1978. She recalls her first impressions of the plant and talks about her many duties as newsletter editor and photographer. Linda describes an incident when the flash from her camera triggered the fire suppression system in the paint booth.

He describes his plans for a second term and criticizes Romney-Ryan proposals for ending Medicare, privatizing Social Security, and expanding defense spending in spite of budget issues.

Description:
Survivor Sachiko Matsumoto talks about going into Hiroshima after the atomic bombing to look for her brother and returning with only his ashes. She also talks about marrying a Japanese-American after the war, and moving to San Francisco. She also says that she is now very active in working with her local Survivors Association and an elder's home.

2084. Hebrew poetry rewriting job

Description:
Noted literary scholar and critic Robert Alter delivers the closing keynote address, entitled "Hebrew Poetry Rewriting Job", of the "Symposium on Modern Hebrew and Israeli Literature", sponsored by the Michigan State University Jewish Studies Program and the MSU Libraries. Alter says that the Hebrew Bible is the foundation for all subsequent Hebrew literature and offers an analysis of the poetry of Nathan Zach and Zelda Schneersohn Mishkovsky, known simply as "Zelda". Alter reads from Zach's poems and comments on syntax, rhythm, symbolism and metaphor and then moves to the poetry of Zelda and similarly comments on her use of biblical language. A question and answer session follows. The event is convened by MSU Librarian Deborah Margolis. MSU Professor Ken Waltzer acknowledges the coordinators of the symposium and MSU Professor Marc Bernstein introduces Alter. Held at the MSU Main Library. Part of the MSU Libraries' Colloquia Series.

Description:
In this installment of "Western Michigan at work," Dr. Willis Dunbar examines the Grand Rapids based Muir Drug Company. Dunbar gives the history of the drug store chain, which operates 32 stores around the country, from its founding by the Muir brothers in Lorraine, Ohio and interviews Nellie Bogerman, a cosmetician at the Kalamazoo store. Dunbar also speaks with Howard Stoll, head of the photo deparment in Grand Rapids, who describes photo developing operations.

Description:
In his final State of the Union address, President George W. Bush focuses on the U.S. economy and the War on Terror. Acknowledging that the U.S. economy is slowing, Bush urges Congress to hasten passage of his economic stimulus plan, which includes tax rebates for individuals and corporations. On the foreign policy front, Bush cautions against withdrawing U.S. troops from the Middle East prematurely and says the country must stay the course in its war on terrorists. He also says that adversaries in Iraq have been hit hard, but that "tough fighting is ahead".
