- Doug Noverr, Michigan State University Professor of Writing, Rhetoric and American Cultures, delivers a talk entitled, "Two versions/visions of Irish immigrant history: Ron Howard's 'Far and away' (1992) and Martin Scorsese's 'Gangs of New York' (2002)". Noverr describes the films and their historical context and recounts Irish patterns of immigration, intermarriage with Native Americans, and settlement on the continent. He explains the fear and racism directed at the Irish by the "Know nothings" as well as the machine politics rampant in New York City. Questions and answers conclude the event. Noverr is introduced by Professor John P. Beck, Associate Director, Michigan State University School of Human Resources and Labor Relations. Part of the "Our Daily Work/Our Daily Lives" Brown Bag series sponsored by the MSU School of Human Resources and Labor Relations and the MSU Museum.

Obama charges that the Senate has deliberately refused to bring previous nominations to a vote and challenges the body to act quickly. The nominees are: Cornelia T.L. Pillard, a law professor; Patricia Ann Millett, an appellate lawyer; and Robert L. Wilkins, a federal district judge.

Frank reads from his book "The mad feast : an ecstatic tour through America's food" and takes questions from the audience. He also participates in the Michigan State University Undergraduate Creative Writing Awards ceremony which is held after his presentation. Frank is introduced by MSU Professor Marcia Aldrich. The event is convened by professor Robin Silbergleid, director of the MSU Creative Writing Program.

- Cathy Baker, paper conservator, historian, and owner of the Legacy Press delivers a talk entitled, "Dard Hunter : arts-and-crafts designer, paper historian, and private-press printer extraordinaire". Baker talks about Hunter's life, his paper making, how he traveled the world to gather information and materials, and how he later published hand-printed books to disseminate the knowledge he had gained. She recounts Hunter's foray into furniture design before deciding that he could make an original and valuable contribution to the field of paper making. Baker answers questions from the audience. She is introduced by MSU Librarian Pat Ols0n.
