- Dr. Albert Sparrow, MD, talks about being the first fully trained pediatric cardiologist in the state, when he came to the Department of Pediatrics and Human Development in the College of Human Medicine at Michigan State University. Sparrow discusses his pioneering research during a period of tremendous progress in heart surgery, treating infants and children and developing procedures to manage small patients. Sparrow says that many ground breaking open heart surgical techniques for infants came from overseas where ethical and legal considerations allowed for more human subject experimentation. He also talks about his mentors at MSU, the great freedom he was given by the college to develop his skills and comments on the move of the MSU College of Medicine to Grand Rapids, MI. He tells listeners they "can turn the clock back or continue to move forward."

Parents Magazine executive editor Michael Kress moderates questions to the Vice President coming in via Facebook. Biden says gun safety is critical in homes to protect children, declares the government will not confiscate firearms, and suggests a shotgun is more effective than an assault weapon for home protection.

- Dr. John Wilbrink, retired Curator of the W. J. Beal Botanical Garden, describes his career at Michigan State University caring for the campus gardens. Wilbrink explains how he arrived in the U.S., came to MSU in early 1957 and went directly to work for the MSU Grounds Department. He recalls his wartime experiences performing forced labor for the NAZIs, surviving allied bombings, returning home to Denmark after the war, and emigrating with his family to the U.S. Wilbrink describes his duties and explains that he planted and cared for significant portions of the beds and gardens on campus. He also discusses the challenges of maintaining the gardens in the face of people stealing plants, rodents, deer, floods, and Michigan weather. Wilbrink is interviewed via telephone by Peter Carrington, Assistant Curator and Frank Telewski, Curator of the W. J. Beal Botanical Gardens. - Congressman Mike Rogers (R-MI) questions Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius about the implementation of the Healthcare.gov web site for the health insurance exchange which was provided for in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). Rogers asserts that the website has inadequate security provisions to protect consumer's personal information. Sebelius declares the security protocols are adequate and that Rogers is misrepresenting the facts. Part of Sebelius' testimony before the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

Obama advocates for the extension because 1.3 million Americans lost coverage when Congress adjourned at the end of 2013 without extending the insurance. Obama's remarks come after the Senate advanced a bill that would extend insurance for eligible workers for three months.
