- Marge grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan, but spent many summers in Grand Haven where her father built a cottage on the shores of Lake Michigan. She attended Hope College, majoring in biology, but because it was difficult for women to enter the field of medicine at that time, she went into teaching instead. In her later years, she became active in the League of Women Voters and was appointed to the Planning Commission in 1970. Not long after, she became the first woman elected to the City Council. In 1981, she began serving the first of two consecutive terms as the first woman mayor of Grand Haven. She held office during the construction of the Boardwalk and the christening of USCG Cutter Escanaba III. In this interview, Marge recalls many details about her childhood, her teaching and her political careers.

Tetreault describes the immigration of North Africans to France following World War Two, their participation in rebuilding the country, cultural conflicts, the process of assimilation and resistance to it from both the French and Arabs. She tracks speech patterns and the development of Franco-Arab slang used by teens to determine who fits in their social circles. Woodhouse credits the environment in Ann Arbor with pushing him towards college and speculates on the apparent lack of desire for higher education among minorities. He says he enjoyed the integrated campus at MSU and talks about his freshman year and shares some of his experiences in dealing with his white dorm mates. Woodhouse explains why he majored in telecommunications after a physics class and an internship ended his aspirations of majoring in engineering. He calls telecommunications a really difficult field to break into and can't predict what he will be doing in ten years. Woodhouse hopes that he can work in film industry but says that he needs more family support to move to Los Angeles to make it happen.

- University of Toronto scholar Paul Lawrie delivers a talk entitled, "Doin' Time in the White Man's Army: African Americans and the Political Economy of Military Labor in World War One, 1917-1919". Lawrie describes the experience of black soldiers in the U.S. Army which replicated the forced labor of the chain-gang in segregated labor battalions. He explains why African-American troops were prevented from assuming combat roles, even as French colonial troops from West Africa engaged the Germans. Lawrie describes how "Jim Crow" laws were institutionalized in the Army, even to the point of returning, uniformed soldiers, being lynched as they tried to go home.
