Mended with piece or rim missing. Red-orange clay with few particles of fine mica. Good glaze. Reserved and washed with red: grooves around central depression and rim; bottom of base ring; concentric circles of varying widths within base ring. Presumably from Pozzouli/Puteoli or Cumae.
Yellow cloth strips folded in layers around small red yarn center. Neck tied with string. Brown human hair braided and wrapped around head. Hair secured at top with string.; Doll made from five layers of what appears to be the same yellowed woven wool fabric. The five pieces were folded and wrapped around a group of red yarns. A 2-strand yarn secures the folded fragments at the doll’s “neck” by wrapping around twice and tying at the back. Brown hair, possibly human, was braided (3-strand) and wrapped around the outside layer of fabric. There are remnants of blue/black yarn that was braided with the hair at the top of the doll’s “head”. A single yarn was tied around the top two layers of woven fabric and the braided hair. Another single yarn was tied around the doll’s “neck” to help secure the braid on both sides. There are a few stitches in some of the woven fragments.
