- Notes:
- A French prisoner executes a jump while ice skating at an unidentified German prison camp. Two other POW's are skating behind him. While winters meant cold barracks and a struggle to keep warm for many prisoners, some POW's took advantage of the weather for some healthy exercise.

- Georges Desson was interned in this cell at Fort Hirson, a French fortress south of Maubeuge near the border with Belgium. The French did not maintain this fortress before the war so it remained generally intact during the German advance into northern France. Desson joined several French internees in captivity.

- A group of French POW's compete in a game of bowling (skittles) in the prison yard at Muenster III. The game has attracted an international audience which includes several Russian POW's. In the background stands one of the camp's administrative buildings.

- An assorted group of British prisoners, including non-commissioned officers, enlisted men, medical corpsmen, and Highlanders, stand in front of their barracks at Wahn. A German guard joins in at the right side of the photograph.

- A French prisoner of war, tied to the stake for breaking one of the camp rules at Zwickau, receives a glass of water from a compassionate Romanian POW to help alleviate the French soldier's suffering.

- French and Russian cobblers practice their trade at a work bench outside of their workshop at Danzig. These craftsmen provided important services to prisoners who could not work without proper footwear. Apprentices could learn a new trade by working with experienced shoemakers.

- View of the city of Yozgad and the Allied POW quarters, secretly photographed by British prisoners incarcerated there by the Turks. The British POW's ingeniously constructed a camera which allowed them to record some of their experiences under Turkish captivity.

- This row of short barracks served as the Polish officers' quarters in the prison camp at Huszt in 1918. A group of officers can be seen hanging up their laundry and blankets on the fence by the first house to the left.

- At the disinfection station, the Russian prisoners of war surrendered their clothing and took showers or bathed in a special dip to kill vermin. Barbers shaved off their hair and beards to eliminate any sources of lice. After their clothing went through a disinfection process, they were returned to the Russian prisoners. This is a photograph of the same four Russian POW's who arrived in the prison camp.
