- Two-story Reading Room in Library Building (North Hall) at Western State Teachers College. View, looking north, features the painting of Yosemite Valley by Thomas Hill above the ornamental mantle. In front of the marble fireplace are two display cases of rare books from the AM Todd Collection. The Reading Room was designed by Henry H. Turner and Victor E. Thebaud Architects in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

- This train, carrying American prisoners from Germany, passed through the railroad station in Bern, Switzerland. During the stop at the station, Red Cross nurses pass comforts to the American soldiers through the train windows.

- This Dutch cartoon shows a bound Belgian worker led away by German troopers while a third German soldier bars his wife at the front door to prevent her from helping the worker. Allied control of the world sea lanes allowed the Entente nations to import laborers from China, Southeast Asia, India, and Egypt while simultaneously denying the Germans access to international labor through the blockade.

- French and Belgian prisoners of war wash their clothing outdoors in large basins in the compound of a German prison camp. Clean clothes are hanging from the lines behind the men to dry. The regular washing of clothing and linens greatly reduced vermin infestations and the outbreak of diseases.

Families could send remittances to prisoners to improve their standard of living, neutral officials distributed financial aid to POW's in distress, and the Germans employed POW's on labor detachments. British and French prisoners ran this bank in Muenster I.
