In the homily for the Sixteenth Sunday after Pentecost (Dominica XVI post Pentecosten) in the Second Series of Catholic Homilies, Aelfric discusses the concept that no man can serve two masters from the sermon on the mount, included in the Gospel reading for the day (Matthew 6:24-33). In some manuscripts, a homily on the Virgin (De Sancta Maria) for the Nativity of the Virgin (September 8) is appended.

Notes:
The editor of The Messenger to the Prisoners of War works on the copy for the latest edition of this monthly newspaper. The Messenger was published in French, English, German, Russian, Serbian, Italian, and Bulgarian by the World's Alliance of YMCA's. The contents included spiritual and moral material, but focused primarily on historical, scientific, and literary articles. The first editor of "The Messenger" was W. Gottsched and he was later replaced by Ernst Sartorius.

A panoramic view of the prison camp at Meschede, probably taken in the Spring or Summer of 1915. The quarantine camp where newly arrived POWs were housed is located to the lower left. At the bottom of the photograph is the railway line that transported prisoners and supplies to the prison camp.
