Liturgy O.C.S.O. was published by Gethsemani Abbey, Trappist, KY and edited by Father Chrysogonus Waddell from 1966-1999. The journal (at that time a newsletter) began after September 1965 meeting of the Liturgy Commission of the Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance to report progress in liturgical renewal after Vatican II. In his homily for All Saints (Natale Omnium Sanctorum; November 1) in the First Series of Catholic Homilies, Aelfric describes the different types of saint (including angels and Old Testament patriarchs and prophets), before explicating the sermon on the mount, described in the Gospel reading for the day (Matthew 5:1-12).

Aelfric's homily for the feast of Saint Matthew (Natale Sancti Mathei Apostoli et Evangelistae; September 21) in the Second Series of Catholic Homilies treats the Gospel reading for the day (Matthew 9:9-13), which recounts the calling of Matthew. Aelfric then describes the saint's preaching in Ethiopia and martyrdom (Passio Eiusdem).

French prisoners of war and civilian internees pull a wagon in the compound of an unidentified prison camp. When laborers were plentiful, men replaced horses who were needed to support the war effort.
