- Ed Welch, professor emeritus of the Michigan State University School of Labor and Industrial Relations (SLIR) talks about his law career and his first contact with MSU in 1970 when the Muskegon law firm he worked for conducted labor and employment law seminars as part of SLIR's Labor Education Program (LEP). Welch says that he practiced labor law for many years, agreed to join SLIR on a part-time basis and specialize in workers compensation issues and finally came on board as a full time faculty member in 1999. He talks about the curriculum he taught, the Workers Comp Center and the Safety Center at MSU, being required to do enough outreach to cover his salary and expenses, his work and travel demands, the newsletter he published, the interpersonal and professional dynamics in SLIR, becoming director of the Human Resources Education and Training Center (HRETC) within SLIR, the tensions between the academic program faculty and the extension service faculty, and the effectiveness and legacy of SLIR and what he liked about his association with it. Welch is interviewed by John Revitte, professor of Human Resources and Labor Relations at Michigan State University.

He shares his perceptions about labor and management, General Motors, the community, best and worst memories, and his style of managing. Jim talks about Lansing workers and their work ethic, working with the local UAW president on the line, and relations with Local 602 and Local 652.

- Larry Otis talks about his career at REO Motor Car Company/Diamond-Reo Trucks, Inc., in Lansing, MI, from 1959 to 1975. Otis describes his youth and early jobs before coming to REO as a truck mechanic. He talks about REO facilities and products, explains the closing of the plant, the disposal of parts and equipment and the start of the Nuts & Bolts Store by former REO workers selling salvaged REO parts. Otis says that he considered REO a good place to work and recalls employee activities in the plant and the REO Clubhouse and the sense of belonging that came with REO employment. The interviewer is Shirley Bradley. Recorded as part of the commemoration of the REO Motor Car Company's 100th Anniversary.

- Allen Van De Vusse discusses his career as a payroll auditor and paint department production manager at the Fisher Body plant in Lansing, MI. He is joined by Louise Dean who discusses her career as a GM salaried clerk/secretary and her husband John Dean, who discusses his varied career as a production worker, plant security officer, supervisor, Safety Director, and maintenance manager. With careers spanning five decades the speakers describe changes in the plant culture, sexism, disparate treatment, plant security, relations with upper management and the UAW, and comment on manufacturing processes and life in the factory.

- Don tells of being hired in 1962 at Flint Chevrolet, AC Spark Plug and describes his first years and Army service. He talks about his educational accomplishments and entering skilled trades in 1982. Don explains why he declined to go on management several times and why he has always respected the union. He comments on the Flint strikes, wildcats, the differences between Flint and Lansing, UAW-management relations differences, females in skilled trades, and the 1984 change to small cars in Lansing.

- Keith Groty, former director of the Michigan State University School of Labor and Industrial Relations (SLIR), talks about his family, education and his career as a professor, labor mediator, arbitrator, and negotiator and finally becoming MSU's Assistant Vice President of Personnel and Employee Relations. Groty also talks about attempts to create a faculty union at MSU and the history of the MSU Faculty Grievance Office which he says was an attempt by the MSU to stop another push by faculty for unionization. - Don Stevens, former Michigan State University trustee and AFL-CIO board member, talks about strife in the CIO and the division between different locals, Water Reuther backing Gus Scholle for leadership of the Michigan CIO and the left-right fight within the CIO. He discusses efforts by the University of Michigan to establish a labor program and says that General Motors and Michigan Bell put "spys" into the classes and demanded that the program be "killed," which led to the establishment of the CIO education facility in Port Huron Stevens also recalls John Hannah's interest in establishing a labor program at MSU as the Republican majority in the state declined and Hannah's defense of the program before the Michigan Senate. He says that Hannah also called a special trustee meeting in 1963 in an attempt to bar two left-wing speakers from campus, and later wanted to expel antiwar demonstration leaders. - Robert Repas, professor emeritus of the Michigan State University School of Labor and Industrial Relations, discusses labor education in Michigan and in particular, his own experiences from 1950 through 1960 working at the UAW's FDR-CIO Summer Camp in Port Huron. He says that the UAW camp's main purpose was to build skills and to train workers to help bring change in society and increase employment benefits. Repas says that the establishment of worker education programs in Michigan was led by MSU President John Hannah who was motivated by a desire to "one up" the University of Michigan and curry favor with the labor unions who had significant influence in Lansing. He describes the early days of the Labor and Industrial Relations Center at MSU, the people who ran it, and programs it conducted around the state. He also explains his perspective on how labor schools should function and the relationship they should have with unions and businesses. Repas is interviewed by John Revitte, MSU professor of Labor and Industrial Relations.
