Re-elected Vice-Mayor Glenn Allen praises the voter turn out, but says that it is still small compared to the number of voters registered and encourages more citizens of Kalamazoo to exercise their right to vote. City commissioners Lorence Burdick, Charles E. Garrett, and Allan B. Milham all deliver brief remarks and thank their supporters.

- President Obama announces the departure of Tom Donilon as National Security Advisor and says he is appointing Susan Rice, currently the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, to the position effective in July. Obama also announces the appointment of Samantha Power as the next U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, pending Senate confirmation. Obama praises the work of Donilon, and says he expects Rice to continue her record of stellar service. Of Power Obama says her vast experience in Bosnia and her academic accomplishments make her a perfect person to represent the country in the U. N. Donilon jokes about finally seeing the sun. Rice thanks family and friends for their support and says she looks forward to the role. Power recalls coming to America as a nine-year-old Irish immigrant and thanks the President for the appointment.

Obama praises the efforts of resigning Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in spearheading the development and implementation of healthcare.gov and in modernizing and streamlining the United States health care system. Sebelius asserts that her department is important in helping people in their every day lives and in paving the way toward new ways to keep people healthy. Burwell thanks her office and praises their efforts to improve the government's fiscal policy and organization. She outlines her goals as Secretary of Health and Human Survices and says she looks forward to helping the American people through her new office.

- Doug Earle, founding director of the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA), talks about safety education and training grants MIOSHA has made to encourage safety programs, labor union influences on safety, and the difference between state and federal safety programs. Earle also describes his role in writing an OSHA bill, getting it through Congress, and some of the features the legislation might contain. The interview begins with Earle and retired Michigan State University Professor of Labor John Revitte talking about right to work legislation, Governor Snyder's effectiveness, Republican domination in state politics, East Lansing school district politics and the current state of labor education in Michigan.

Cooper leads the group in singing satirical versions of carols adapted to reflect budget cuts in the state government. The session concludes with questions and answer. - M. Cecil Mackey, former president of Michigan State University and current professor of economics, discusses his education, career, and tenure as MSU President. Mackey talks about his efforts to maintain the authority of the MSU Board of Trustees and planning the Breslin Center while president and his time as an economics professor since he left the presidency. Mackey also reminisces about his early career as counsel for the Senate Antitrust Subcommittee and the Department of Transportation, as well as his early posts as President of the University of South Florida and Texas Tech. Mackey says that military conscription in both World War II and the Korean War had a definite impact on his education and discusses his opinions on the current state of higher education. Mackey is interviewed by retired MSU Professor Pauline Adams for the Michigan State University Faculty Emeriti Oral History Project.
