- A panel of Lansing, Michigan area restaurant and farm owners discuss local restaurants using locally grown food. Panelists are: Adam Montri, owner of Ten Hens Farm in Bath; Nina Santucci, co-owner of Red Haven Restaurant and the Purple Carrot Food Truck; Jason R. Blastic, executive chef at the Soup Spoon Cafe. The panelists describe their farm and restaurant operations, partnerships between restaurant and farm, opportunities for sourcing locally, business philosophies, environmental and economic sustainability, and how they seasonally adjust their production and menus. The panelists answer questions from the audience. The session is convened and moderated by MSU Librarian Heidi Schroeder. Part of the Michigan State University Libraries' Environmental Series. - John E. Fetzer, managing director of the Fetzer Broadcasting Company and the owner of radio stations WKZO and WJEF, dedicates the WJEF station in Grand Rapids, MI. Fetzer laments that the technologies developed after World War I which promised to ensure peace were turned to war, and notes that radio has been turned to the service of propaganda to spread fear and dissension. Fetzer says that radio in America must strive to be a democratic method of communication and a way to keep citizens informed by hearing the voices of their public officials. He dedicates WJEF as a tool for democracy and a medium for communication, education, and public service in Grand Rapids.

- In his monthly radio program Memories of the Past, Doug Tjapkes interviews Grand Haven resident John VanSchelven about his early memories of the area. During this program, John talks about Armistice Day and remembers the Grand Haven Concert Band and the Jackie Band. He recalls his father, who worked in a meat market, and the harvesting of ice from Spring Lake before the invention of modern refrigeration.

- Lora Bex Lempert, professor emerita of Sociology and Women's and Gender Studies at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, delivers a talk entitled "Eating the life sentence elephant : one bite at a time." Lempert describes her research into how women, incarcerated for life in Michigan prisons, cope pragmatically and creatively with their sentences by constructing meaningful lives inside prison.
