- Color postcard depicting an elevated view along Central Avenue on Belle Isle. The street is crowded with pedestrians and in the foreground is a round flowerbed. Printed on verso: Central Avenue, Belle Isle. Detroit's principal recreation spot is an island in the Detroit river connecting with the city by a bridge, 8 feet less than half a mile in length. It comprises 702 acres, is over two miles long and boasts over 20 miles of fine macadam roadway which completely circles and frequently intersects it. A fine zoo, aquarium, horticultural building, swimming and skating pavilions, casino and boat livery are in connection. The City has expended over $1,500,000 on it since its purchase in 1879. Printed on verso: On the Lagoon in Evening at Belle Isle. - Band Concerts are given at the city's expense during the summer afternoons and evenings.
