- In an installment of "Dunbar commentary," Dr. Willis Dunbar describes the controversy surrounding Loyalty Oaths which the University of California requires its professors to sign. Dunbar says the crux of the problem is the addition to the oath of language about Communism and the Communist party. He also says that a compromise has been reached between the faculty who protested the changes and the university's Board of Regents.

- Dr. Douglas Noverr, professor emeritus and former chair of the Michigan State University Department of American Thought and Language, talks about his career at MSU. Noverr describes his childhood, early teaching career, earning his doctorate at Miami University in Ohio and how he came to MSU. He also describes a collegial ATL department which encouraged research and says that even though he found the job of chair to be demandng, it gave him a chance to be very social and work with a team. Noverr says the relationships he built were far more important then the books he wrote. He describes the three volume MSU history he is completing in his retirement. Noverr is interviewed by retired MSU Professor Pauline Adams for the Michigan State University Faculty Emeriti Association Oral History Project.

- Denbow reflects on his upbringing, studying journalism, a stint in the Army, and his first job at Penn State University. He describes learning the craft of public relations before coming to East Lansing in 1982 and creating a coordinated public relations effort for MSU based upon portraying the university as elite, but not elitist. He describes the many challenges facing MSU as it attempts to stay true to its land grant mission and laments disinvestment in the state college system and suggests that research institutions play critical roles in solving current and future problems. - In a spirited oral history interview, Michigan State University Professor Emerita Pauline Adams, widow of MSU economics professor and university president Walter Adams, reminisces about her husband, coming to Michigan State College in 1947, living in faculty housing, and building a home in the faculty developed Lantern Hill neighborhood in East Lansing. Adams also talks about conducting interviews for the MSU Faculty Emeriti Association Oral History Project, teaching in the Department of American Thought and Language as tenure track professor and having James P. Hoffa, son of labor leader Jimmy Hoffa, as a student at about the time his father disappeared. Adams says that the ATL curriculum did more for the faculty than the students because it forced faculty to broaden themselves beyond their field of expertise. Interview conducted by MSU Professor John Revitte. Ends abruptly.

- Description:
- Dr. William Strampel D.O., Dean of the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, talks about his youth, education and career in the military, medicine and academia. Strampel says that he was drafted into the U.S. Army, served in Vietnam and later re-enlisted and pursued a career in military medicine which included serving in the Army's Special Forces Group One and commanding the Fort Riley Hospital. He came to MSU in 1999 and says that he quickly impressed the university administration with his budget and financial expertise and was made Dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2002. Strampel also talks about the growth in the College during his tenure and the lessons he has learned over his long career. Strampel is interviewed by MSU History Professor Emeritus Charles Gliozzo for the Michigan State University Faculty Emeriti Association Oral History Project.

- In the second of a two part interview, Dr. Walter Adams, former interim President of Michigan State University and professor of economics, continues to discuss his career at MSU and the beginnings of the School of Labor and Industrial Relations (SLIR). Adams remembers a politically driven investigation of SLIR when the business community felt MSU was providing too much assistance to labor organizations, recounts an episode during the McCarthy era when a threat to the university was beaten back by John Hannah and explains how SLIR joined the College of Social Science rather than the business school. Adams also talks about his book "The test", his experiences as interim university president, his opposition to the Vietnam War and why he marched to the state capital with students on October 15, 1969, and efforts to unionize MSU faculty and the creation of a faculty grievance process. Adams says that he often spoke out on campus controversies and frequently had the ear of John Hannah and that he feels that the quality of the MSU administration has declined in the last ten to fifteen years. Adams is interviewed by MSU Professor of Labor and Industrial Relations John Revitte.

Lenski talks about his appointment to two different departments at MSU, his childhood in Ann Arbor and Chapel Hill, attending Oberlin College as a biology major, and studying the interplay of evolution and ecology in graduate school at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. He also describes his career before coming to MSU and says that he finds the MSU community to be incredibly supportive and East Lansing to be a wonderful place to live. He ends by describing some of the awards he has received and discusses his concerns for the future of science and research.
