- Invitation to the formal opening and dedication of City Hall on July 4, 1871. The invitation is printed on yellow paper with a check pattern watermark. It reads: Detroit, June, 1871 Dear Sir: You are respectfully invited to the City of Detroit, as the guest of its Citizens, on the Fourth of July. In addition to appropriate ceremonies in celebration of the day, the occasion as been selected for the Formal Opening and Dedication of our new City Hall. It is desirable to have your letter of acceptable as early as the 15th inst., in order that time may be afforded for sending you the necessary tickets. Respectfully, etc., Wm. W. Wheaton, Mayor, C.C. - Invitation form letter to a dinner addressed to Major Henry B. Brevoort from the Detroit Fire Department, printed on stationery with a header of an eagle grasping a banner that reads, "e pluribus unum." The note reads: The Fire Department of the City of Detroit, Respectfully solicit the Company of Maj. H.B. Brevoort at Dinner, near the National Hotel, in celebration of the approaching Anniversary of American Independence, on Monday the 5th inst. Detroit, July 2, 1847 Committee: Jno. R. Williams Zina Pitcher R.E. Roberts "Rec. July 4th at 2 PM," has been handwritten at the top of the note.
