- Description:
- Michigan State University College of Music Professor Maria Cristina Fava delivers a talk entitled, "Drawing a Finer Point on 1930's Era Success: 'Pins and Needles' and the ILDWU's Lesson for the Theater Guild". Fava explains the relationship of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union and the Theatrer Guild in the production of the Off-Broadway show "Pins and Needles". Fava describes how the production evolved from a variety show with a cast of unionized garment workers in their off time to the cast giving up their jobs to become full time actors with the success of the show. She provides reviews by theater critics and describes how the cast navigated the politics of the day. A question and answer session follows. Fava is introduced by Michigan State University Professor John P. Beck. Part of the "Our Daily Work/Our Daily Lives" Brown Bag series sponsored by the MSU School of Human Resources and Labor Relations and the MSU Museum.

- Description:
- This is a collection of approximately 500,000 pages of microform material from one or more departments of the City of Lansing, which date from 1964 to about 1985. Much of the material is undated, and the bulk of what has dates was produced in the late 1970s. Based on subject titles typed onto each microfiche sleeve, a large portion of the material is related to Lansing's participation in the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Community Development Block Grant program. This program, initiated in 1974 during the administration of President Gerald Ford, attempts to eliminate poverty and urban blight with control largely placed in the hands of state and local authorities. Typical materials in this collection include minutes and agendas for various committees such as Zoning or Parks and Recreation, correspondence, chronological files, interoffice files, and subject files. See the linked spreadsheet (.xlsx format) for a listing of all subjects represented in this collection. To request any of the material, note the item number, name, and box it appears in. Digital copies of microfiche pages are available on request. Acronyms appear frequently throughout the material titles.
