- Candace Keller, professor of art history at Michigan State University delivers a talk entitled "Imaging culture: understanding portraiture by Malick Sidibé". Keller briefly describes her research on West African photographers, cultural histories, identities, and aesthetics from the 1940s to the present and then focuses on leading Malian photographer Malick Sidibé. She answers questions from the audience. Keller is introduced by MSU Librarian Terrie Wilson.

- John Revitte, Michigan State University Professor of Human Resources and Labor Relations, presents some of the research he and Ken Germanson have conducted looking at the Allied Industrial Workers union and their relationships with the UAW-AFL, the UAW-CIO, and additional research he hopes to conduct into the stories of the parts supplier industries and the AIW. Germanson introduces Revitte and several others join the conversation. Revitte asks for their assistance to find memorabilia of the unions and coaches them on where to look. They reminisce about some high and low points in the unions and some of the past and present struggles faced by workers.

- Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha, pediatrician and associate professor of Human Medicine at Michigan State University and the public health advocate whose research exposed the Flint, MI water crisis, talks about her book, "What the eyes don't see." Hanna-Attisha discusses the history of Flint, how the city got into such a dire financial situation and why she started to investigate the possible lead contamination of Flint's drinking water. She also describes her fight against the State of Michigan's efforts to discredit her research on lead contamination in Flint and its effects on the city's children. She answers questions from the audience.

- President Obama announces a new research initiative designed to revolutionize understanding of the human brain. Called the "BRAIN Initiative" (Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies), Obama reminds listeners of the spectrum of brain and neurological disorders and suggests the research will provide treatments, cures and spin-off technologies. He says the initial cost of $100 million in the fiscal year 2014 budget, will be recouped by investing in American innovation to create jobs and strengthen our economy. Held in the East Room of the White House.

- In an interdisciplinary panel discussion composed of Michigan State University faculty entitled "Digging Up the Past: New Tools/New Subjects," panelists describe their individual research and the modern research methods and tools available to them. The panelists explain how census data, archeology, photography, personal letters, religious order records, and numismatics may be used to shed light on historical periods and events which may not be exposed in official documents or historical records. Panelists are, Siddharth Chandra, professor James Madison College, Stacey Camp, professor Department of Anthropology, Sharon Leon, professor Department of History and Noah Kaye, professor Department of History. John P. Beck, professor of Human Resources and Labor Relations, convenes the session and moderates. Questions are taken from the audience.

- Jack Stieber, former director of Michigan State University's School of Labor and Industrial Relations, reminisces about his childhood and youth, early employment, how he became interested in labor issues, and the history of the MSU labor school. He discusses his military service in World War Two, his graduate studies at the University of Minnesota and Harvard, coming to MSU, and later becoming director of the new School of Labor and Industrial Relations. Stieber also comments on the operations and structure of the labor school, its funding, the pros and cons of hiring faculty without doctorates, faculty personalities, and his own areas of research. Ends abruptly. Stieber is interviewed by MSU professor of labor and industrial relations, John Revitte.

President Obama outlines an energy program that draws on the administration's stimulus package for $39 billion at the Department of Energy and $20 billion in tax incentives for clean energy. He also talks about proposed budget spending to make permanent existing tax cuts for energy research and experimentation.
