- Timothy Messer-Kruse, professor in the Department of Ethnic Studies at Bowling Green State University, delivers a talk titled, "The enduring power of the Haymarket Square bomb: uncovering the hidden history of a failed revolutionary uprising in America." Messer -Kruse recounts the national struggle for the eight-hour work day that led to the protests in Chicago between May 1 and May 4, 1886 and the impact of the resulting violence on the American labor movement. He also discusses the ensuing trial, the evidence, the sentences, and issues of guilt and innocence. Messer-Kruse is introduced by Professor John P. Beck, Associate Director, Michigan State University School of Human Resources and Labor Relations.
