The Liberty Bell replica rang out on May 25, 1950 to signify the opening of the local Independence Savings Bonds drive of the Treasury Department. Speakers at the ceremony included Jack Benny, "Rochester" from the Jack Benny show as well as local dignitaries. Veterans and civic groups also participated in the event.
