- Michigan State University Economics Professor and former Dean of the Honors College, Dr. Ronald Fisher, talks about his childhood and youth in upstate New York and growing up in a Sears and Roebuck kit house built by his grandfather. He explains how he came to MSU for his undergraduate work in chemistry and then went to graduate school, majoring in economics, at Brown University. Fisher compares living on the east coast to mid-west living, describes the differences in the teaching environment now and 40 years ago, how students have changed, how the character of universities has changed, how universities are funded, and why tuition is rising. Fisher also talks about his eleven years with the MSU Honors College and says that he believes it attracts high caliber students to the Unviversity. Fisher is interviewed by retired MSU Professor Pauline Adams for the Michigan State University Faculty Emeriti Association Oral History Project.

- In an oral history interview, Gladys Beckwith, professor emerita of American Thought and Language at Michigan State University, talks about earning her doctorate from MSU, staying on to teach and and later becoming interested in faculty governance issues and faculty unionization as she began to see that professors had little involvement in the decisions which affected them and the great disparity in faculty compensation between departments and gender. Beckwith also talks about suing MSU for sex discrimination, unsuccessful attempts by faculty to unionize, and colleges around the country using more and more part time faculty, which calls a national disgrace. Beckwith is interviewed by John Revitte, MSU professor of Labor and Industrial Relations and current Faculty Grievance Officer.

- Michael Rubner, Michigan State University's longest serving Faculty Grievance Official, talks about being born in Palestine and emigrating to the U.S., his education and what brought him to James Madison College at MSU in 1970. He also talks about why the FGO position interested him and his role in the creation of a grievance manual. Rubner says that he inherited an office which did not run smoothly and discusses the steps he took to improve things and that he decided to leave the position because of two faculty members who "made his life miserable". Rubner is interviewed by MSU Professor John Revitte, who himself is a former FGO. Revitte also reflects upon some of his experiences in the office and his revisions to the grievance manual.

- Robert Repas, professor emeritus of the Michigan State University School of Labor and Industrial Relations, discusses labor education in Michigan and in particular, his own experiences from 1950 through 1960 working at the UAW's FDR-CIO Summer Camp in Port Huron. He says that the UAW camp's main purpose was to build skills and to train workers to help bring change in society and increase employment benefits. Repas says that the establishment of worker education programs in Michigan was led by MSU President John Hannah who was motivated by a desire to "one up" the University of Michigan and curry favor with the labor unions who had significant influence in Lansing. He describes the early days of the Labor and Industrial Relations Center at MSU, the people who ran it, and programs it conducted around the state. He also explains his perspective on how labor schools should function and the relationship they should have with unions and businesses. Repas is interviewed by John Revitte, MSU professor of Labor and Industrial Relations.

- Dr. William Derman, Michigan State University Professor of Anthropology, talks about his career-long effort to combine intellectual engagement with political activism and social change. Derman is interviewed by Dr. David Wiley, Director of the MSU African Studies Center and Peter Limb, MSU Libraries Area Studies Librarian. Derman recalls his time at the University of Michigan, joining Students for a Democratic Society, teaching African American students in Detroit, his anti-war efforts, and his work as an anti-Apartheid activist. He also talks about his work in South Africa with land use planning, water rights, and education and later shifting his focus to Zimbabwe to assist development and resettlement projects. Derman questions the ability of younger faculty and students to be engaged both as academics and citizens. He sees a low level of activism in the current faculty and student body and is not sure how the community will respond to current and future challenges.
