- Business card of William P. Wenner, Pipeman of Fire Steamer Company No. 6. The card is printed with a red background image of a horse-drawn fire engine. The name, "Samuel Hawman," is handwritten on the verso. This card was contained in the lead box time capsule that was removed from the Old City Hall on May 25, 1961.

- Detroit Fire Department active duty certificate, engraved by Capewell and Kimmel, and issued to Louis Specht on May 14, 1857. The document bears the signatures of President Jerome Croul, Treasurer Alexander Paton, and Secretary Benjamin Vernor, beside a silver embossed Fire Department of the City of Detroit seal. Hand-colored illustrations of uniformed firefighters, an early fire apparatus and firefighting equipment, the seal of the State of Michigan, and Neptune flanked by two winged monsters are bordered by scrollwork. The number "12" has been added to the helmets of the firefighters and to the apparatus, likely indicating Specht's involvement in Woodbridge Fire Company No. 12. "Great grand father of Daneil Murray Embach," has been handwritten in the lower left corner.

- Detroit Fire Department active duty certificate, engraved by Capewell and Kimmel, and issued to John McDuff on April 24, 1858. The document bears the signatures of President Robert E. Roberts, Treasurer Alexander Paton, and Secretary Benjamin Vernor, as well as the signing date, March 15, 1858, beside a blue embossed Fire Department of the City of Detroit seal. Hand-colored illustrations of uniformed firefighters, firefighting equipment, the seal of the State of Michigan, and Neptune flanked by two winged monsters are bordered by scrollwork. The number "4" has been added to the helmets of the firefighters and to the apparatus, indicating McDuff's involvement in Lafayette Fire Company No. 4. "When danger calls we are prompt to fly / and bravely do or bravely die," has been handwritten around the upper arc of the large central circular motif. Illustrations of the fire engine of Lafayette Company No. 4, another pair of early apparatuses, and a sepia-toned photograph of Lafayette Company No. 4's apparatus on Wayne Street in front of their fire station near Larned Street, are pasted onto the certificate.

- Sepia-toned albumen photo of the Firemen's Memorial in Elmwood Cemetery. The Memorial consists of a round white stone column (probably marble) that is mounted on an ornate carved, 4-sided white stone base. A carved figure of a fireman, who is shown with a downcast gaze, is standing on top of the column. The front of the base shows a raised carving of a fireman's helmet and the lettering, "Firemen." A planted flower bed occupies the area around the monument base. Also, there are two large flower urns on each side of the monument. Several ornamental fire hydrants are visible in the foreground and gravestones can be seen in the area beyond the flower bed.

- A photographic print of a 8 photos composited onto the same matting. Depicted are head and shoulder portraits of M. Condon, Lieutenant F. Wilkenson, and Captain P. R. Garr at the upper left corner, bottom left corner, and lower right corner. The top center image is of B. Cronin and D. Breen leading the horse drawn fire engine No. 3 out of their firehouse. A small unlabeled photo of what appears to be a hose apparatus is at the upper right. Several firefighters posed with the 1st automotive of Company No. 3 are pictured at the center left. A shot of the firefighter-lined ladder apparatus of Ladder Company No. 1 labeled as the "Bull Moose," in front of a wall painted with a sign for the Detroit News is positioned on the center right edge. Engine Company No. 3's automotive and Ladder Company No 3's apparatus are pictured racing down the street at the bottom of the composition. The matting is decorated with scrollwork and chain patterns.

The photo shows a horse-drawn fire engine with one fireman in the driver's seat, three firemen standing on the sidewalk, and two firemen standing beside the rear wheel of the fire engine. Several bystanders are also visible. A brick fire station building is visible in the background. Four square decorative motifs that represent various tools of the fire department can be seen be seen along the face of the fire station building.

- Photograph. Sepia-toned glossy photo of Detroit Fire Department Ladder Company No. 6. The view shows nine firemen who are standing or seated on the ladder truck. All of the background has been removed from the image. The number, "KX11," is written in the lower right corner of the image. A blue ink stamp with handwriting on the verso shows "Detroit Historical Museum, Subject: Ladder #6, First horse-drawn then motorized tractor added."

- Black and white photo of two firemen who are seated on a small wagon that is being drawn by three horses. Several brick and wood frame residential houses are visible in the background. Handwriting on the verso shows "D.F.D. approx. 1902. Eng. 9 exercise wagon shown with the steamer horses. If a fire company had no runs within a 24 hour period, the horses were exercised in local streets near the station houses. In the event of a fire, they would be notified to return to the station by ringing the tower bell."
