- Russian and French prisoners man the milk bar at the prison camp at Cassel, selling bowls and glasses of milk to the inmates. German authorities supervise the sale of the milk products. Acquisition of fresh milk from the diary farms around Cassel was not a problem for German authorities in 1915, before the Allied blockade took a toll on the German economy.

- French prisoners produced "Le Tuyau" ("Sprachrohr" in German or "The Megaphone" in English), a prison camp newspaper in Quedlinburg. The Germans permitted POW's to produce newspapers in various languages which promoted camp social and athletic events. This was the 24 August 1916 edition of the newspaper, which was in its second year of publication.

- Recently captured by Bavarian troops, these Senegalese soldiers will join their French comrades behind them in captivity in Germany. The German caption calls these colonial troops "Franzoesische Kulturtraeger" ("Conveyors of French Culture") to highlight the Allies' dependence on colonial forces for their security.
