Icicles hang from the building's facade, and rubble has settled around its base. A pile of hoses, a group of people, and a horse-drawn sleigh are in the intersection below. An arc of water from a fire hose run from off the left edge of the frame, to the building's entrance. A fire engine, and a cloud of steam rising from it, is visible in the intersection of Griswold and Grand River Avenue in the background on the right. The photo is mounted on beige cardstock. - Mounted sepia-toned photograph taken of a fire engine and a hose apparatus in the intersection of Grand River Avenue, Griswold Street, and Rowland Street (now Shelby Street), behind the ruins of Capitol High School following its fire on January 27, 1893, facing the south. A crowd of spectators have gathered around the steam engine from which a cloud of smoke rises. Firefighers are using hoses to spray both the eastern face of the building along Griswold, and the western one along Shelby in the background. Snow covers the ground, and ice coats the eastern face of the school. Signs for Howard's Sandwichs and Coffee, the Siau Laundering Company, and the Chamber of Commerce are visible along Shelby on the right. The photo is mounted on beige cardstock. "From Alvord & Co. - Sepia-toned photo of three employees of the Merchants Credit Bureau--Estelle Koehler, Judie Strandburg, and Marion Maus, as indicated by a handwritten notes on both the recto and verso--kneeling in winter coats of the roof of the Merchants Building, on the east corner of Grand River Avenue and Broadway Avenue. Snow has accumulated on the roof's surfaces. The caption, "Coldest in Six Years," has been handwritten at the bottom of the recto. "1923," is handwritten on the verso. The remnants of stripes used to affix the photo in an album are on the corners.

- Sepia-toned panoramic group portrait composed of two photos pasted together of a gathering of members of the Detroit Goodfellows posed outside of the American Printing Company. The groups is composed of men clad in coats, hats, aprons printed with "For Base Ball Results, The News," and newspaper carrier bags. Snow covers the ground. Signs, one on a post in the foreground and the other on a windowsill in the back, read, "Detroit Christmas Fund. Old News Boys. 'No Kiddie Without a Christmas.'" The foreground sign has been retouched to darken the text. A circled "1" has been drawn beside one of the kneeling men at the lower left.
