- Description:
- Photograph (and 1 copy). Sepia-toned photo showing the construction of a railroad bridge over the Rouge River. Printed text in the upper left corner of the photo shows the number, "11," and "M.C.R.R. River Rouge Bascule Bridge; Foundations; Concreting Caisson #4; June 4, 1919." The view shows two workmen who are inside the top of caisson #4 (near lower left corner of photo) while two other workers are standing nearby on the railroad track. A concrete bucket is suspended overhead from the construction crane that can be seen in the center right foreground area of the photo. The vertical reinforcing bars of caisson #3 can be seen to the right and a fifth worker can be seen standing on the railroad tracks between the two caissons. A second construction crane and pile of debris are visible in the background on the other side of the tracks. The Rouge River (looking downstream) is also visible in the background and a construction barge can be seen along the near shore. Various buildings and stacks of lumber can be seen on the far shore of the river.
