Mrs. Lord Nelson Turner

A woman sitting in a wicker rocking chair on the Lawrences' porch. In the 1880 Federal Census, a Lord Nelson Turner and wife Persilla were listed and their race was given as mulatto. Likely they were acquaintances of Henry North Lawrence because of his work helping to establish the Sunday School for the A. M. E. Church in Lansing. Note on sleeve: "No. 310. July 9, 1903. Al--"
