Karanis; Textiles; Wool
- Notes:
- Fragment of woven wool fabric with plied yellow wool warp and several weft bands of varying colors. There are at least two shades of brown and two shades of blue. One band is red/purple, another band has some red, some blue and some blended red and blue wefts. Shaded stripes. There is very deteriorated linen weft-wrapping throughout the fragment. Some weft-wrapping (in a blue band) appears to be a remnant of guilloche patterning. There are remnants of thick yarns, wool and linen, used for sewing. There is a ribbed selvedge.
