Karanis; Textiles; Wool

Notes:
Fragment of woven wool fabric with brown/gold warp and brown weft. There are three tapestry bands, each approximately 0.9 cm wide and 2 cm apart and ornamented with ovals (geometric or floral motifs?) that are 2 to 2.5 cm wide. The bands are edged with linen and there is linen patterning (weft-wrapping and tapestry) in the ovals. One edge of each blue band encircles the warp near the edge and there are remnants of dove-tailing with the brown background weft. There are very deteriorated linen motifs between the blue bands and between the last blue band and a partial row of countered weft-twining. This row of red twining is doubled for most of its length but narrows before reaching the other edge. The twining loops pass over two warps each. There are a few yarns from (apparently) random stitches.
