African-American Memorial Cards

Description:
This collection contains contains approximately 150 memorial service cards for funerals held at the Riley Funeral Home and/or the Trinity African Methodist Episcopal Church (sometimes called the Collins A. M. E. Church) in Lansing, Michigan. They are organized alphabetically by last name. Most date from the early 1960s through the 1970s, with a few earlier than 1960. Some of the memorial cards include brief biographies of the deceased. The Trinity A. M. E. Church and Riley Funeral Home are historically black organizations, though all the deceased individuals in this collection may not necessarily be African-American. These cards were given to the Forest Parke Library and Archives in 1992 by a donor who wished to remain anonymous. A name index is attached to this record.
