Hell Gate Bridge; Preliminary designs. Cantilever Trusses (1900). Suspension Bridge (1904)

Notes:
Completed in 1916, the Hell Gate Bridge crosses the East River at Hell Gate. It was designed as a four-track railway bridge by Gustav Lindenthal for the Pennsylvania Railroad. Lindenthal served as consulting engineer for the bridge's construction, which began in 1914, with the help of Othmar Ammann as assistant chief engineer. Little Hell Gate was built to cross the water between Wards and Randalls Island.
