Notes:

Ray Retan, Publicity Manager for the Grand Rapids Railway Co. (City Directory, 1928), is seated behind a desk, in his shirtsleeves and vest. He wears a chain across the front of the vest, with a center medallion suspended from another chain in the middle. On the desk is a pair of scissors, a refillable day-at-a-time calendar indicating Monday the 10th (September or December, 1928), an inkwell, and a glass bottle of dark liquid. On the wall is a 3-month calendar, a framed motto or poem, and a framed picture of a train.
