Karanis; Textiles; Wool
- Notes:
- Fragment of yellowed woven wool fabric with a section of purple tapestry, a row of weft-twining and a small remnant of attached fabric, as well as a hem along one edge. The tapestry band is 2.5 cm wide. Linen weft and weft-wrapping were used to create patterns in the band. Near the center, slit tapestry and eccentric weft were used to create a circular shape. 1.2 cm from the purple band there is a row of countered weft-twining. The twining loops pass over three warps. There is a warp-wise hem along one edge and a very deteriorated piece of yellow fabric (16 cm x 2 cm) was attached with wool stitching. Several pieces of coarse linen yarn pierce the fabric.
