Amos Smith

- Amos Smith was a senator from the Fifteenth District from 1869-1870. He was born in Springfield, Pennsylvania on August 7, 1829 where he received his education and graduated from a business college in Pittsburg. He taught school in Cass County, Michigan in 1848 and then in Yazoo County, Mississippi. He settled in Vandalia, Michigan in 1852 and taught school for several years. He also owned a farm and spent much time locating lines and corners in Cass County. He was Secretary of the Cass County Farmers' Institute for several years, Supervisor for several terms, and County Surveyor for eighteen years. He also held many other offices. He was a republican.
