roundel fragments; Karanis; Textiles; Wool; leaf

Notes:
Fragment of woven fabric with multiple linen warps and purple/red wool wefts. Linen weft-wrapping was used to create floral motifs within circles, small circles within the edge of larger circles and guilloche around the edge of the fragment. This fragment may have been part of 10481a and together they may have formed a roundel. There are a few areas along the curved edge where the wefts encircle the warps (slit tapestry).
