Karanis; Textiles; leaf/vine, human

Notes:
Fragment of a tapestry rectangle with paired linen warps, blue/black wool and undyed linen wefts and linen weft-wrapping. A very small piece of undyed linen fabric was sewn on at one corner. The weft-wrapping is very deteriorated and the fragment is very dirty and worn so details are difficult to discern. The central motif may be a human figure with arches above and below, in a small rectangle. Surrounding this central rectangle are floral or leaf motifs in wool on a linen ground. A blue/black wool border around the outside encloses the tapestry. The wefts along the two warp-wise edges encircle the warps and there are a few small remnants of linen, possibly dove-tailing. There are linen stitches along one warp-wise and one weft-wise edge, also.
