View of Chapman Pond from Main Street

Description:
A photograph of the corner of Main Street and University, looking East. Chapman Pond is visible in the distance. Chapman Pond was created when the nearby Western Knitting Mills built a dam in the early twentieth century to power the mill. The pond remained until 1946 when a flood broke the dam and required the pond be filled in. Rochester Hills Public Library and the Royal Park Hotel both stand on top of the old pond. Photograph taken ca. 1907, exact date unknown. Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm, Rochester Hills, MI
