Economic development under structural adjustment
- Description:
- This paper examines the performance of selected West African countries in terms of the development during ten years in which various stabilisation policies and IMF/World Bank structural adjustmentprogramme (SAP) were implemented. All the countries performed badly as measured by conventional indices. The paper concludes that the IMF/World Bank SAPs must be rejected and recommends, among other programmes, the implementation of the Economic Commission for Africa's adjustment package as a minimum effort to correct the crisis of the last ten years.
