- Invitation to the Independence Ball held July 4, 1831 at Woodworth's Hotel, addressed to Mary Catherine Brevoort, and dated July 1, 1831. "Mrs. Brevoort" is handwritten beneath a lithographic print of an eagle holding an "e pluribus unum," banner in its beak. "Mrs. Brevoort is again handwritten on the verso, so that her name would be displayed on top when the sheet was folded in thirds. A.S. Porter, J. Winder, I.S. Rowland, and M.F. Abbott are listed as the hotel's managers.

- One postcard announcement concerning an upcoming property sale due to unpaid taxes. The postcard was addressed in handwritten black ink text to "Henry Maybury, 91 Baker St., Detroit." This address was crossed out and replaced with "Pt. Tampa City, Fla.," and a "Forwarded" stamp was placed near the right side of the card. Preprinted text on the verso explained the current tax laws and indicated that the card was sent by "C. M. Burton" of "Burton Abstract of Title." Handwritten text noted that property being advertised for sale due to unpaid taxes was the "S 1/2 Lot 1, Blk [Block] 61, Baker farm." (Presumably, this was the property that was located at 91 Baker Street.)

- Handwritten letter on "Office of E.B. Ward" stationery, dated April 10, 1874, concerning the potential sale of some silver stocks. The letterhead includes an engraving of E.B. Ward's Warehouse by the Calvert Lithographing Company. The letter reads: Hank[?], I can do nothing with your Sil Stock except I sell it outright or on time with privilege of [?] back at a future time by paying at the rate of three per cent per month. It amounts to this. That if I sell it on time you will only use up the money & some one else will own it at half its value. I would also have to five my note to obtain the money & when due would only have the stock to repay me. The money lenders here are a most [?] set. I tried to get $600 on the stock without giving my note but it was impossible to obtain. Do you wish to sell outright for six hundred dollars. If so I will buy myself, if I can raise the money & sell it to Will[?] if he wishes it & to the Old Grut[?]. Your stock will be worth more in a year & I do not care to see it go out of the family. - Half folded invitation and envelope from the Detroit Light Guard to a Governor's Levee and Military Soirée, held February 12, 1885 at the Princess Rink in honor of Governor Russell A. Alger. The front features a blue lithograph of a uniformed soldier standing beside the text, printed as though on a large seal, and an image of soldiers drilling at camp above. The interior lists the honorary guests, the honorary committee, the reception committee, the floor committee, and the general committee of management. The envelope has "Gov. R.A. Alger," handwritten on the front, and the seat of the Detroit Light Guard on the flap.

- Mounted sepia-toned photograph of the front and left face of the log house on Private Claim 45 along West Jefferson Avenue near Dearborn Street, which originally stood along the Rouge River on Private Claim 569, where it was occupied by Jean Baptiste Campau and Archange [Lassilen dit Possion] Campau, then later Charles Campau and Archange [Beaubien] Campau. A typewritten note, signed by Edgar Beaufait Marion on the verso of the matting reads: Grosse Pointe, Michigan. February 22, 1944. This picture was taken by Edgar Beaufait Marion, son of Adolph N. Marion and Elizabeth Mario Marion, (Ne Beaufait) during the summer of 1920. This is the original log house that stood on the banks of the River Rouge, known as Private Claim 569on which a Patent was issues by President John Quincy Adams on the Twenty-first day of March 1827. It was then occupied by Charles Campau and Archange Campau, his wife, (Ne Beaubien) after Jean Baptiste Campau and Archange Campau (Ne Lassilen Dit Possion) had originally occupied same. This house was later moved from the River Rouge to the front part of Private Claim 45 (also known as P.C. 11) facing on the River Road (now Jefferson Avenue West). It was maintained as a farm an orchard adjoining to the east. Subsequently the house and big barn were razed and the property remained vacant for some years. In 1935 the City of Detroit instituted legal action to secure these properties for a Sewage Disposal Plant, which action was terminated in the City's favor. From these proceedings the City left 14 acres of P.C. 569 bordering on the River Rouge which they did not desire. Adolph Nazarre Marion, my Father, passed on January 21, 1938.

Attached to the back of the photograph was a typewritten copy of a letter sent from Helen G. Doremus to Henry Ford stating the following: Dear Mr. Ford: Mary, Bob, and Frank join me in sending our very best wishes to you for your birthday. The enclosed snap is one I found the other day when looking through a box of pictures and I thought Mrs. Ford and you might be in it. These people were neighbors on Alexanderine Ave. I do not know all of them, but I do remember some-- perhaps you know the rest. The two ladies seated in the center (left) Mrs. Mills (right) Mrs. Green. The man and woman standing back of them are Gus Mills and Helen Mills Porter. The lady with the derby hat is Kit Green and the lady in white standing back of the hammock is Lillie Muehle. The note on the back of the picture is in Miss Muehle's writing. - Marriage certificate for David Robertson and Mary Heartley, both of Allendale, Michigan, issued on June 12, 1895. The ceremony was officiated by Clergyman W.P. Wilcox and witnessed by John Robertson and Rebecca Wolbrink. The certificate features a decorative illustration on its upper two thirds, featuring illustrations of men and woman, flowers, a Bible, and various Bible verses. Text on the bottom left of the certificate reads "Light of the World Marriage Certificate" and text on the bottom right of the certificate reads "Copyrighted 1894, by the W.A. Holt Pub. and M'F'G Co., Pekin, Ill."

- Marriage certificate for Chas. S. Wolfe, of Reed City, Michigan, and Effie D. Whitney, of Hersey, Michigan. Certificate issued on December 28th, 1880. A small newspaper clipping affixed to the top left of the certificate reads "At the residence of the bride's parents in Hersey, Mich., Dec. 28, 1880, by Rev. O.S. Wolfe, Mr. Charles Wolfe, of Reed City, and Miss Effie Whitney, of Hersey." The certificate features a decorative border and text. The certificate is inset with 2.5" x 3.75" photographs of Charles Wolfe and Effie Whitney, which are inserted into pockets on the back of the certificate.

- Certificate appointing Edward Edgar Hartwick as a Noble of the Mystic Shrine in the Moslem Temple of Detroit, dated October 30, 1903. The text of the certificate is as follows: "The Imperial Council of the Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine for North America To all True and Faithful Nobles of the Mystic Shrine: Know Ye that the Worthy Noble Edward Edgar Hartwick who hath signed his Name in the margin hereof, was regularly Received, Admitted and Constituted A Noble of the Mystic Shrine in Moslem Temple of Detroit, Mich, on the 30th day of Oct. 1903 and that he is duly Enrolled as such upon the Records of the Order. In Testimony Whereof We have hereunto subscribed our Names, and affixed the Seal of The Imperial Council for North America." The certificate is signed by the Imperial Recorder, the Imperial Potentate, and the Recorder of the Moslem Temple. The gold seal of the Moslem Temple of Detroit is affixed to the bottom center.

- Passport issued to Annette H. Alger by the United States Department of State in 1913. The document is signed by Alger and the then Secretary of State, William Jennings Bryan. It is stamped with the seal of the U.S. Department of State. Text on the upper right corner indicates that the document is good only for two years from the date it was issued. Along the left hand side of the document is a description of Annette H. Alger, including her age, height, eye color, hair color, and complexion. The text of the document reads: "For all to whome these presents shall come, Greeting: I, the undersigned, Secretary of State of the United States of America, hereby request all whom it may concern to permit Annette H. Alger a Citizen of the United States safely and freely to pass, and in case of need to give her all lawful Aid and Protection. Given under my hand and the Seal of the Department of State, at the City of Washington, the 25th day of June in the year 1913, and of the Independence of the United States the one hundred and thirty seventh. W.J. Bryan"
