- Built 1916. Photos are a part of the "Visual Views of the Elementary Schools in the Lansing School District" project of the Lansing Area Community Resources Workshop in cooperation with Michigan State University. It was compiled by Priscilla L. Shaver who was a teacher at Lewton School. The director was Frances B. Schneider. Each included school has a photo of the school building and playground. The album was created to aid students who were being moved to new schools in the hopes that they could use it to know where their new school was and what it would look like. Priscilla Shaver attended the 1971 Lansing Area Community Resources Workshop to aid in assembling this project.

This photograph was taken in May 1912 outside the original school building. Some of the players pictured are Merl Green (Greene), a senior; Paul H. "The first Oldsmobile built by the Olds Motor Vehicle Company, organized in 1897, was the 'horseless carriage' turned out that same year. it was produced in a tiny shop on River Street in Lansing, Michigan, and was the predecessor to millions of Oldsmobiles which since have been manufactured in the vast plants of what is now the Oldsmobile Division of General Motors Corporation. It is now permanently housed in the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., as an example of early automotive pioneering."

According to the 1907-1908 Michigan State Gazetteer and Business Directory, an H. P. French operated a "Coin Controlled Machine Company" in Charlotte. The same H. P. French was likely the operator of Waverly Park near Lansing in about 1912.

- This home, on Dobie Road in Okemos, was built between 1880 and 1885 by Morris Hammond to replace an earlier home destroyed by fire. Hammond had settled there in about 1865 on 200 acres. - So called "Governor's Mansion" built by the State around 1857. No governor ever lived in the residence. It was originally located on the southeast corner of Capitol Avenue and Allegan Street, as shown in this photograph. The home was purchased by architect Edwin Bowd in 1923 and moved to 2003 West Main Street, after which time extensive remodeling was done. A lengthy history of the home appears in the Lansing "State Journal," November 24, 1933, page 20. Three copies.

It was compiled by Priscilla L. Shaver who was a teacher at Lewton School. The director was Frances B. Schneider. Each included school has a photo of the school building and playground. The album was created to aid students who were being moved to new schools in the hopes that they could use it to know where their new school was and what it would look like. Priscilla Shaver attended the 1971 Lansing Area Community Resources Workshop to aid in assembling this project.
