Printed text along the bottom of the poster shows "They are struggling against starvation and are going to feed not only themselves and children; but their husbands and sons who are fighting in the trenches." The poster was designed for the United States Food Administration by Edward Penfield whose name is shown in the lower left corner of the drawing.
