- Description:
- This collection consists of materials that reflect the history, organization, and operations of the Lansing Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA). The Lansing chapter began in 1889. Over the years, the organization grew and operated in several buildings. At one time, the YWCA included rooms to rent and a lunch room that was open to the public. The Diana awards were given annually from 1977 to 2003 to women who were leaders in the community. The collection includes minutes and reports of the board of directors as well as various committees; information on specific programs such as the Diana award, along with photographs and biographies; the YWCA centennial in 1989; and scrapbooks and clippings that cover specific events and individuals associated with the organization. - Several men in suits outside of an ivy-covered brick building, possibly one of the Reo Motor Car Company buildings. Armidas Alphonse "Claude" Lauzun, the factory manager in the 1920s, is at far right; all others are unidentified. The photograph was donated to the Lansing Public Library by Claude Lauzun's daughter, Dr. Virginia Lauzun-Stoney.
