Detroit's principal recreation spot is an island in the Detroit river connecting with the city by a bridge, 8 feet less than half a mile in length. A fine zoo, aquarium, horticultural building, swimming and skating pavilions, casino and boat livery are in connection. The city has expended over $1,500,000 on it since its purchase in 1879. The New Michigan Central Station is located near Michigan Avenue, between fifteenth and seventeenth Streets, covers twenty-one acres and the total cost is $15,000,000.00. There will be eleven tracks in the station that will accommodate 135 passenger coaches. It will have all conveniences, such as a complete Drug Store with special facilities for the care of Invalids and Change Room where travelers can at nominal cost obtain Shower Baths and make a change of clothing. Printed on verso: Log Cabin, Palmer Park. - Built on land donated to the city by Ex-Senator Thomas W. Palmer in 1893, and is situated north of the city at the extreme terminal of the Woodward Avenue car line, is one of the city's favorite breathing spots. Its center piece is a log cabin which is an exact reproduction of the home in which Senator Palmer resided when Detroit was little more than a trading post. Postmarked Sep 4, 1913.
