- M. Cecil Mackey, former president of Michigan State University and current professor of economics, discusses his education, career, and tenure as MSU President. Mackey talks about his efforts to maintain the authority of the MSU Board of Trustees and planning the Breslin Center while president and his time as an economics professor since he left the presidency. Mackey also reminisces about his early career as counsel for the Senate Antitrust Subcommittee and the Department of Transportation, as well as his early posts as President of the University of South Florida and Texas Tech. Mackey says that military conscription in both World War II and the Korean War had a definite impact on his education and discusses his opinions on the current state of higher education. Mackey is interviewed by retired MSU Professor Pauline Adams for the Michigan State University Faculty Emeriti Oral History Project.

Obama announces the Economic Recovery Advisory Board, saying "A historic crisis calls for a historic response." - Michigan State University Distinguished Professor Leonard M. Fleck discusses issues raised in his recent book, "Just caring : health care rationing and democratic deliberation". Fleck says that advances in technology have created unlimited health care needs, which society does not have the resources to meet. Health care must inevitably be rationed, he says and citizens must face the moral and political challenges this presents. Offered as part of the Michigan State University Libraries' Michigan Writers Series. Fleck is introduced by MSU Librarian Joshua Barton.

- Seagull, who joined the department in 1971, recalls the shift of the medical school to a four-year program and talks about the school's multidisciplinary approach to community medicine, the collegiality of the early faculty, and their innovative approaches to teaching and patient care. She says the department grew very rapidly and that the University encouraged faculty to be innovative. She also describes efforts to recruit minority and female students and trying to make the male dominated culture more sensitive to female students and residents. Retired department administrator and faculty member Dr. David J. Kallen, Professor Emeritus of Sociology, conducts the interview.
